In Chicago on the other hand..

I think the younger crowd is just kind of bored in the city, especially minorities like myself (I'm Asian)

(Though one benefit of this is that one can easily meet someone new by asking "Didnt I just see you here last weekend?")
Exactly! Just like Pittsburgh, same thing. The nice city neighborhoods are far and few between. Chicago probably has a million people living in nice neighborhoods with all the good bars, restaurants, etc. Not to mention, Chicago has 18 miles of paved lakefront and beaches. Cleveland doesn't have anything than can compare.

If you know, how is Philly, btw? Like a Pit, Cleve, and Detroit or on par with a Boston, NY, and Chicago or somewhere in between? I'm guessing, at least, that they have great places to eat. Ever had a grinder? (They have a chain of simple, old "Philly" style dives in Chicago that sells them - best sandwiches i've ever eaten.)

I've lived in Philly before. It felt like a bigger version of Pittsburgh to me. People from Philly like to think they're a "little NYC", but they ain't. Far far from it. That can't even compare to Chicago, not even close. And Pat's and Gino's, 'steak and cheese's' are OVER RATED big time!

This thread is on the verge of being closed! It is nothing compared to what it was for the OP's question.

Chicago is great! And so is Cleveland. Half of the comments on here about Cleveland are so wrong, they make no sense, and in many cases, how could someone be so wrong and post something like that?

If you have never been to Cleveland, or do not live in the city, please do not bash it like many have. Cleveland is a true urban city, and is nothing like Detroit or Buffalo. Pittsburgh is just messed up IMO, the most poorly designed city I have been to.

Cleveland can compete with Milwaukee or Baltimore. Chicago is a New York, Cleveland is a Milwaukee.

END OF ARGUING! It is getting old. And Cleveland bashing!!!??? Seriously, lets learn some facts!

LOL, Someone from Cleveland bashing Pittsburgh? LOL And how would you've designed Pittsburgh with all them hills? Cleveland is FLAT! Alot easier to lay out. If you know your way around Pittsburgh it aint hard to get around. Plus, in Pittsburgh, we know HOW to win Super Bowls! And Milwaukee? When do you even hear ANYTHING at all about Milwaukee? Seriously, when? Not saying it's a bad place or anything. But they dont even have a NFL team. I wouldn't aspire to follow them that's for sure. Pittsburgh is mentioned way more and more movies are filmed there than Milwaukee could ever dream of.

You can thank alexmarison for the downfall of this thread.

I agree with most of what you are saying though. That does sort of sound like you are bashing Pittsburgh though.

I'm no expert on Pittsburgh, but as someone who visits there once a year, I'd have to say their freeways and roads are very poorly laid out. And I've been to plenty of other cities with as many or more hills. This is typically a product of poor regional transportation planning.

That being said, I like both Cleveland and Pittsburgh and have no interest in bashing either, nor in claiming a city is superior based on the relative success of their sports teams, how many times they are mentioned in movies, or other nonsensical criteria.

What other cities? The only 2 major cities (I've been to every major city in the US) I can only think of, off the top of my head, Seattle and San Fransico that have a similiar terrain as Pittsburgh. And don't forget that Pittsburgh is 250 yrs old. Cities out west were built more around the car than our cities back east. I'm curios though, what are these "plenty of cities" you've been to, with "as many or more hills"? Don't for about the rivers that run thru the city too. Did you know that NO OTHER CITY in the world has more bridges than Pittsburgh. Please list these cities though, I'm VERY interested to know what they are and their lay outs.

Well this is a subjective discussion but there was a thread in here recently that addresses your question:

http://www.city-data.com/forum/gener...or-cities.html

Your point about Pittsburgh being 250 years old actually proves my point --- the key factor is the regional transportation planning. My favorite example of this is Paris --- very difficult to get around the city because the individual municipalities refused to work with each other so you have a patchwork of disconnected roads.

It's a tradeoff though... a guy like Robert Moses comes in to older cities and builds interconnected roads (like he did in New York), and ruins neighborhoods in the process. Meanwhile a city like Boston has more "culture" and intact neighborhoods, but it's a disconnected patchwork quilt and they have to do projects like the Big Dig to try and catch up.
