Angry ditto that reply

I have lived in Cleveland all my life, in close to town and now 30 miles east for the last 30 yrs. I concur with everything redrock says.

It is one of the few cities that one is depressed from Nov. to May. It is always gray and the weather is brutal. The economy is at a standstill and the real estate market, like parts of the rest of the country, is falling bigtime.
I work in the mortgage industry and have had the worst yrs of my 35 yrs. career, the last three yrs. No one moves here by choice. It is usually for a job.

I am approaching retirement and plan on spending winters in the south and summers here. I'd stay down south but my grandkids and kids are here and I need to be by them at least 4 months of the yrs.

Unless you have a super job offer, Cleveland would be the last place I'd want to move to.

Seriously if both of you come in here to start a conflict, then dont even bother coming on the site. This is really getting ridiculous. I am not originally from Ohio. From Pittsburgh. I have lived in other parts of the nation so i know what is going on. I use to live in Westlake. Many different people have different experiences in a certain place. Sounds like you two have had bad ones. I know many people that love it there. Sounds like you dont know what you are talking about. Cleveland is really on the rebound. I can understand where some of you are coming from, as different people have different opinions on an area. But if you are going to call someone out and start a conflict with them, dont even bother coming on the site.

BTW, have you done any other research on other states in the nation? I work for an Urban Planning Firm. I visit cities across the US, and if you think Ohio is in bad shape, you have no idea. Have you taken a look at the pollution levels out west? Do you see the chemicals they put in the ocean around California and Florida? Have you read about the underground fires they have in New Jersey where they burn their trash because there is no more room for dumps? Im sorry, but no place is perfect. Having visited cities like Detroit, St. Louis, Milwaukee and Philadelphia, Cleveland is doing much better. Im sorry that you feel like im painting this perfect image of Cleveland and other parts of Ohio. But having lived in other spots of the nation, and seeing what other cities are going through, it gives you this better perception of an area. Ohio is diversfying it's economy, and doing a good job of it. Our unemployment rate sits at about 5%, and most of our major metros sit at or below the national level. Cleveland/Akron currently at 4.5%. Lets not start anything on here. Its getting old.

Angry Whose starting trouble?

I think it amazing that you come on here after living in Cleveland for a few short yrs. and go on and on about how wonderful it is and then when lifelong residents add something negative, you tell us not to come on the board.

Is your take on Cleveland the only valid one? Did the Chamber of Commerce hire you?

My take on the city is an honest critique of the area and I should know I've lived here all my life and I dare say I know a little more about the subject than a transient resident.

I also noticed you going on and on about Cincinnatti on that board. It's wonderful your so "up" about everything, but this board is supposed to be an Honest review of certain areas.

Last but not least, who elected you moderator?

My last question is an honest inquiry. How does one become the moderator?

Well i will take this up with the other moderators on how you ESTROGEN are acting on here. I became moderator because i help people out. Not just here, but other forums as well. Sorry you dont see it that way. Thats your opinion on Cleveland. Im not going to fight you on that, but you are 100% wrong for questioning mine. Stop treating Cleveland as if it were Detroit. I notice you live in Chardon, Ohio. A very nice community i might add. Let me just remind you. I may have lived in Cleveland for two years, but i did a hell of a lot of work while i was there. Cleveland has been very busy these past few years with developments going on. You have no right to question me on some of the things you are. You dont know me, and i dont know you, neither do i plan to.

Like i said. Many people have different experiences and opinions on a certain place. I understand you have had some pretty bad ones. But when i worked for Forest City Enterprises based in Cleveland i met many people from across the nation and world that moved to Cleveland. They loved it there. Not saying that all did, but most. The people were friendly, helpful, and did not slack off. They worked hard. We were constantly busy with work. Cleveland is really starting to hit it off on some of the large developments. Cleveland is a very multicultural city. One of the most diverse cities in the country. It has one of the best emerging downtowns in nation, and one of the fastest growing. Downtown Cleveland grew by 32% in population since 1995.

Like i said, i understand that you have a certain opinion on Cleveland. I respect that and you can speak your opinion as much as you like. That is what this site if for, BUT it is not met for conflicts. Hopefully things can calm down in here, if not that is your decision. You just have to realize no matter where you are in this great nation people are going to have different opinions' no matter where you are. Even if it is places like Miami and Los Angeles.

BTW, other moderators nominate another person for moderator. I have brought up a few names in the past. You certainly wouldnt be on my list from the way you act. But to keep things from escalating i will be the bigger person and stop this now. Like i said you can decide if you want to let it keep escalating or not. Have a very nice day.

Some of the people on this site are truly uninformed.

You can't sell your house in Cleveland? The real estate market is in bad shape across the country.

Only 65 days of sun per year? Where is the link to your source? Cleveland's weather is ok usually until early to mid December then the snow and cold starts(though not this year). It is NOT grey all winter. We get plenty of sunny days thorught out the period of December, January, and February with March and April beign the rainiest.

The Clinic, University Hospitals and Case are working together and will be creating 10,000 new jobs over the next 9 years. People forget that while a good proportion of these jobs will be for educated medical professionals another large proportion will be support staff that may not even need degrees like security, parking attendants, facility management personnel.

National city Bank and Key are also growing banks acquiring smaller banks all the time.

The Cleveland economy is not the best, but its by far not the worst. The projects paintballer keeps mentioning will truly be transitional and will help to attract the young professionals seeking a vibrant urban cosmopolitan lifestyle. Ican't wait to get back after I graduate.

The roads are a mess? Please, sure it has some bad roads, but what city doesn't? When was the last time you've driven in Cleveland? All the major interstates and avenues and most of the side streets are in good condition.

Whoever gets there information on Cleveland from the Plain Dealer or Action news (19) will have a negative perception of the city as those outlets have the "If it bleeds, it leads" mentality that does little to reflect positive developments in the city.

I think Cleveland's biggest problem is people thinking its less than what it is. I have tons of friend's that appreciate Cleveland more now that they've lived in other parts of the nation.

For all of those spewing these negative fallacies, BACK IT UP!!! with links or sources lots of those statements are just unfounded and if you did a little research you'd know this.

To all those that don't know Cleveland Rocks!
