Hi,

I just moved to the Cleveland area for work and am having trouble finding activities or clubs to get involved with. I've looked into and contacted a couple of young professional organizations but they don't really seem to have many events going on besides guest speakers. I'm not a big sports person but I looked at the ClevelandPlays website and you can't join leagues independently. I do fitness activities, though they are not really "social" since you are just there to work out. I'm really just looking to try/learn new things and meet people but I haven't been able to find anything good in all my research. If anyone has suggestions, I would love to hear!

Thanks!

Hey, welcome to the area.

I'm in Akron so I can't reel off YP organizations in Cleveland quite as easily as here, but perhaps I can help out.

My first question is what exactly are you looking to do once you get involved with a group or organization? Are you looking more for a social outlet, community service, networking... ?
Did you move to a neighborhood with a strong identity? Do you have any specific religious, professional, or ethnic background? Sometimes using those avenues gives you an easier in than just being in a certain age group. I've used several of those angles as a springboard to get involved and make new connections. It also helps if you can pinpoint some interests as various organizations have their own YP groups or boards.

Let me know and (if no one else has better suggestions) I can probably help you nail something down.

If all else fails and it's not too inconvenient depending on where in the metro you are, you might try a YPA event (Young Professionals of Akron - Home) - they are geared almost entirely as a YP social group, it's a pretty easy way to meet new people if you're new to the area. It just happens to be in Akron.

Good luck!

Thanks for your reply. I am not too far from Akron, maybe about 30 min away. I will definitely check out YPA. As far as looking for "social outlet, community service, networking," all of the above interests me! I'm pretty open to things - just looking to do something fun and/or meaningful. And since I'm new to the area, the social aspect is probably the most appealing to me.
