Any proposals for another 800ft+ skyscraper? That new Hilton should help fill one gap of the Cleveland skyline but one more really tall building will help even more I think.

Nothing to that magnitude. The new 30-story Hilton is the only thing in the pipeline with decent height. The latest renderings for the new Cleveland convention hotel win praise at a public forum - along with suggestions for improvement | cleveland.com

Interestingly enough Progressive Insurance's big man, Peter B. Lewis (good friends with Frank Gehry) died yesterday...RIP to the man.

The reason I mention this is that the self-made Billionaire has originally planned on putting his HQ on Public Square as a Frank Gehry designed 850-ft skyscraper. There was a falling out with the city leadership and so Lewis pulled away and continued his empire in the suburb of Mayfield. It'd be interesting if the new regime decides to revisit a similar idea. They've already branded the Indians downtown with Progressive Field.

Drat! Lost opportunity indeed! Boston has too many tall buildings already with more on the horizon. Too bad we can't spare one for you.

Buildings don't much matter if you don't have the businesses to fill them.

Yes but as Costello Musician told, a businessman wanted to locate his company's headquarters in a tall skyscraper right in the heart of Downtown but got turned away. I am not for building skyscrapers for the sake of aesthetics only - that's the dream of wayward architects and developers - but such a case that a business wants one built for itself is what a city needs to go after. It means that businesses can be interested in moving into Downtown Cleveland. This would be a true indicator of a progressing downtown.

Maybe its just me, but I'm grateful that Progressive HQ was never built here. So damn hideous….. I don't think we need anymore tall skyscrapers maybe just in fill with Key Tower as the center piece.

Some people think that building in the suburbs actually helped the company. They say it attracted a lot of suburban housewives, who were highly educated, but didn't work when their kids were young. They went back to work when their kids got older. These are not the types of people who would've commuted downtown. Giving Progressive access to this pool of workers helped the company grow. Not only that, but it eases congestion if you don't have a single CBD in your city, but several scattered throughout. That's why I'm not really opposed to the Eton development either.

This is the reason Cleveland will stay a suburb town.
