Wosmama, from what you've posted in here so far, I think you'd be happiest overall in Shaker Heights. As was pointed out, that jogger was mugged five years ago in Shaker Heights, but despite that and a handful of other crime stories, Shaker Heights still has roughly half the crime rates of the US as a whole and is, as a whole, undoubtedly safer than most of Cleveland Heights. The idea that Shaker Heights is in decline and the schools have slid from their heyday is the type of rumor that has been spread around on this sit and those like it for decades and has yet to really come to pass. Was Shaker Heights probably nicer in the 1980s? Probably. But that doesn't put it in a state of rapid decline. In reality there are a handful of border areas with Cleveland you should watch out for, but other than that Shaker Heights is quite safe, nice, and stable. You might not want to live in the Ludlow or Moreland neighborhoods, and maybe part of Lomond (the first 3-4 blocks east of Lee), but other than that Shaker Heights is a great city. Even the mugging everyone brings up happened in Ludlow IIRC, which truthfully isn't even a bad neighborhood really, though I wouldn't recommend it for a family with kids. For the most part Shaker Heights is a picturesque suburb with beautiful tree-lined streets built back in the days when each house was designed unique. Every city has its own version of "Shaker Heights" if you will, but none I've yet see really match the original planned suburb in the USA, which is Shaker Heights itself.

It really is not nice to constantly attack and criticize the outlying suburbs. Is it a crime that they are what they are?

The same can be said about the posters who constantly attack the inner ring suburbs and city.

Then let's clean up the inner ring suburbs and city so that the financial numbers, population decline, crime, school quality, etc are all on par with the outer ring suburbs. Doing so will result in nothing but acceptable differences like:

Suburb: Those who like quietness and housing type development living.
City: Those that like the excitement, center of it all, walkable type living.

To name a few.

I think that would result in very minimal attacks on either location.

All urban areas have more challenges on all of those fronts, just by virtue of their being melting pots for all different income levels, ethnicities, and ages, and greater population density. Suburbs are more self-sorting. These are problems that those of us who like cities just have to deal with them. In the end people who select city life have decided that the benefits outweigh the drawbacks.

The suburbs of most healthy, diverse cities in this country don't have the same problems of decay that Cleveland's do. Cleveland's inner ring suburbs are weak because the central city is mostly terrible. Weak central city, weak metro area.

Okay, you're right. It's terrible, Cleveland's terrible, let's all take your lead and move to California. Who knows why we subject ourselves to this hellhole of a city? There are no redeeming qualities here whatsoever. The weather is terrible, it's full of thugs and gang bangers, its economy is in the toilet, it is a hopeless horrible depressing place. Yet some of us still love it... We must be crazy. Now, can you please go back to the California forum and stop bugging us crazy Clevelanders? We can't handle all the pointing out of the obvious by these clear-headed Californians, it disrupts our flights of fancy and delusions of grandeur.

Thanks Cleverfield. Your response is what a post of such little intelligence deserved. The word is: troll...
