I am always proud to say that Cleveland is the home of : Case Western Reserve University, Fenn College-now Cleveland State, The Cleveland Symphony Orchestra, the amazing Cleveland Art Museum, Cleveland Clinic, good transportation system, etc. I am still amused when I think of "pink flamingoes, dress shoes with white socks, The "Flats" - horrible when I was there, the mayor setting his hair on fire, the filthy Cuyahoga River (they did an adequate job of clean-up when I was there) but it too was set on fire, my old alma mater Lake Erie College in Painesville, the amazing ethnic diversity, the Terminal Tower and so much more. I am now in beautiful Northern California and anticipating a move to New Mexico. I value my experience in good old Cuyahoga County. I met my husband there, had my child at Mt. Sinai hospital, enjoyed Euclid Beach (still there????) and all the good stuff that makes the mid-west what it is. It was part of the journey for me, and in spite of the horrible weather and humidity, I will always have a very soft spot in my heart for my old hometown. How could I forget Frankie Yankovic and the polka!!
My mom and dad danced on Polka Party one Sunday. Euclid Beach is gone, but my sister still sends Humphrey Popcorn Balls and the candy kisses to me. My sister and I rented our first apartment across from Euclid Beach Park.

Default Good old Cleveland

Thanks so much for the memories Tigerlilly. In spite of the negative impressions, I got a wonderful education, met my husband, made good caring friends, had my child at Mt. Sinai Hospital and many other positive experiences. I am now headed from beautiful Northern California (wine country) to a new living adventure in Santa Fe, New Mexico, but as I said earlier, Cleveland was a very important and vital part of my growth.

We've lived in Dallas, Salt Lake and Portland, OR since leaving Cleveland in 1980. We considered and visited Albuquerque but not enough water around for DH's liking. I found this forum while checking out the Raleigh-Durham forum. We're moving to be closer to family lilving in several southern states and Cleveland and to escape Portland's nine months of grey.

this post is toooo funny. I have never lived in cleveland bt reside south of the city. My son lived there for a "while" and worked for BP and Key Bank. so i have heard the stories and had many adventures on visits. the most memorable was the monday night football game between the old browns (pre-baltimore) and new england. we went to the game and the weather was not bad. there was a blizzard and we had to drive an hour home. UNFORGETABLE.
Garfield 1-2323 is only for locals, no one else would understand LOL! Great city for singles!!!

Default Funny!

Wow, that was real and funny too. Having lived on the west side of Cleveland awhile back (anout 14th and Detriot) I rememeber a lot of the stuff listed. The funniest was is that we haven't lived in the area for over 9 years and I turned to my husband and sang, in perfect pitch, Garfield 1 2323. LOL Do they still play those commercials?

I am so ashamed thou, I don't remember the Morning Buzzard jingle...Do they have it on their website? Now I am dieing to remember!

Great stuff! My parents and I moved out of the area in 1981 to Florida. I was 11 and I still miss Cleveland. For me Cleveland is like a time capsule, my Garden of Eden. I've actually entertained the idea of moving back to Cleveland when my youngest daughter graduates High School.

Hey, here is another one for the list, You know Superhosts real name.

Sorry to floridians but i must say that 3 months of chilly weather are better than 10 months per year of gulf Coast humidity and heat where you dare not venture out between 10 am and 8 pm except to go from an a/c house to an a/c car to an a/c building----it is unbelievably beastly------and here in Clev, as long as it is over about 25 degrees, i can put on a coat and hat and take a nice walk----try it sometime! meanwhile the weather here from april to october is 7 months of the finest weather you will ever find anyplce on God's green earth-----but instead we whine about the cold winter....

Hey Steve, that's one of the things I don't understand about folks who gripe about the cold weather. If you put on a simple hat and coat and maybe even some gloves you're fine, but like you said as lang as it stays above the mid twenties.

Yeah, I can stand the cold when it's a NORMAL cold. But when the temps are in the single digits and the wind chill is around -20°, it pretty much sucks! Hopefully this torture doesn't last long. Now we've also got 20" of snow to deal with too!

Looking at the weather channels 10-day forecast within 6 days we'll be in the upper thirties-mid forties. ALOT better than now. I wonder if there will be flooding though due to all the melting about to come.
