Rock & Roll Hall of fame induction Ceremony: Cleveland 2009!
The actual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in Cleveland, Ohio will host its own induction ceremony in 2009 after a decade of New York shows. Next year's (08) induction ceremony, which will see Leonard Cohen and Madonna among those honoured, will be held in the Big Apple, but then the show will rotate between the hall itself and other New York venues. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson announced the news on Wednesday (19Dec07), revealing that the induction ceremony will be held in Cleveland every three years - if the 2009 event is a success. The ceremony has only been held once in Cleveland, in 1997, since the waterfront venue opened in 1995.

With any luck, maybe Todd Rundgren and Ian Hunter will be inducted...FINALLY. There would be no more appropriate setting for them than Cleveland.

I dont understand why the ceremony isnt held in Cleveland every year, I mean the Rock Hall IS in Cleveland. A lot of people are confused why it isnt held here either year, but either way its good that its finally being held in Cleveland.

Absolutely! It is my understanding that this is a one time only event and after that, the ceremony will revert to New York
There should be a committee formed to determine what it would take to have these ceremonies permanently relocated to Cleveland.
In a way, not having the ceremonies at the Rock Hall is an insult!

This is a one-time guarantee, with the possibility of having it in Cleveland every 3 years (if the event goes well in 2009...).
To answer Cle440's (and I'm sure that of others as well) question: The ceremony is traditionally held in New York because that is where the "Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation" (the group behind the HOF/Museum) was created/incepted.

Screw the Rock Hall
Football originated in the UK. So WHY doesn't the Pro Football Hall of Fame (in Canton, OH) have the inductions THERE?
The fricken RRHOF is in CLEVELAND. If Terry Stewart (CEO) wants to hold the induction ceremonies in New York, he should MOVE the stupid building there already, or have them in Cleveland EVERY year.
Ozzie Osbourne was right. He once called Black Sabbath's Rock Hall nomination "meaningless" because fans aren't involved in the selection process.
Sort of same principle as letting India elect our president. Stupid is as stupid does. The Rock Hall is just another example of greedy, fat cat, corporate jerks who know virtually NOTHING about music, making stupid decisions that only benefit the few at the expense of the tax payers.
Cleveland should bust the chops of whoever decided to pull this monkey business on their poor city.

Your passion and fervor are inspiring, but the argument here is slightly off. By the same logic, Rock and Roll originated from the Rhythm and Blues and Jazz cultures in Memphis, Chicago, New Orleans, etc. The Rock Hall's presence in Cleveland is due to the popularization of the term "Rock and Roll" by Cleveland DJ Alan Freed, and the f irst rock and roll concert being held in Cleveland.
We all hope that the ceremony becomes more frequent in Cleveland, but the fact is that the Foundation is in NYC, and they want the ceremony in NYC.

Does anybody have any inside poop on what weekend the induction ceremony will be next year? I've read sometime in March or early April, but nothing definite.
