Yes, it is better.

We currently live near Akron, OH (Uniontown, OH) and, although I dream of something bigger and better, it is much simpler here than anywhere else. The snow is beautiful...and we don't get enough! My husband and I were just saying tonight how we only get a handful of snowfalls each year. And, if you move back to Bath...what a beautiful town! I just love that area. It's gorgeous! Fairlawn is probably a lot more built-up than you remember...but it's definitely no Vegas strip!! The only downside to the Akron/Canton area is that the industry isn't that great (although I'm SURE that you could find a job) and I don't think that the nightlife compares to Vegas...ha, ha, ha. I recommend that you also look into some nice suburbs of Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh is a beautiful, lively city with lots to offer. And, you can absolutely find a piece of land to call your own there. They have lightening bugs...and snow...and mountains. It's just beautiful.

I love Ohio too, though I never been there. My close people live in Ohio. I wish you good luck and come back.

I have read where the population continues to go down in every city in ohio but columbus. How do you all feel about columbus? I was on the internet the other day looking at homes for sale in ohio (as i do almost every day) and i ended up looking in mansfield. any ideas about mansfield? It looks like a sleepy little town. The company my husband works for has an office there, one in brecksville, one in dayton, one in cincinnati and one in sidney. OUt of all of those places which one is the nicest? safest?

Brecksville is one of the nicest suburbs in Cleveland nowadays. It's definitely "nice" and "safe"

I'll 2nd that! Brecksville is very nice and has good schools and convenient to everything.

IMO Mansfield is depressed, nice merry-go-round but that it.

Actually i lived in Brecksville for a short while when i was younger. Went to Hilton Elementary School and belonged to Great Lakes Swim Club (if that means anything to anyone). I remember it being a great little town, its nice to hear it has stayed that way.
Columbus is another option for us. I am not familiar with anything in that area. Do you know what towns are comparable to Brecksville in that area?
I am somewhat afraid of being too far from a big city. After living in Vegas for 30 years where everything is open 24 hours and there is the typical clump of fast food restaurants every mile or so and shopping to die for I fear that i'll go through withdrawls if i'm too far away from it all. I guess i'm looking for a happy medium between country and the big city (well, not too much of a big city). Any thoughts?

btw, can anyone tell me about property tax in ohio? how is it figured? is it a percentage of the market value of the property? I'm ashamed to say that i don't even know how its figured here in Nevada. I just pay it but i have heard that ours out here isn't as much as yours in the midwest.

Where did you read that, because Cincinnati and it's metro are growing?

Can you post a link, please?

My bad, i wasn't looking that far south. THat seems like an entirely different state to me since I grew up in northeastern ohio. My apologies.
