Well I've signed my contract! I begin 12/1. We are strongly leaning towards Quay 55, only downside is lack of walkability. The Langston is in 2nd as it offers walkability, but I'm not sure how much we will actually walk. Any input on these two? Our third choice is any property in University Circle, but they are pricier. However, the local amenities of art and culture may be worth it.

If you have a family stay away from the Langston, lots of college parties from Cleveland St go on there, but other then that the neighborhood is real nice, and you are close to downtown

Great info; thank you! I was afraid of that with Langston. I'm trying to find others DT like Statler or E 4th. I love Hanna but no openings. If anyone has other input let us know! We are not signing a lease until at least 12/1.

I don't know anything about Quay 55 inside (I'm sure it's nice), but I don't get the appeal of the location. You're not close enough to downtown to really benefit from it and you're not close to much of anything going in the other direction.

I really only see it for those who want a lake view and like going downtown, but are scared of actually living downtown or can't afford it. I doubt OP is the former and if the latter, I'd think there are better options on the fringe of downtown or in an inner ring suburb. Personally, I'd drive 5-10 minutes more to work or downtown and give up a lake view if it meant I was closer to the grocery store, restaurants, etc.

YMMV.

Love the neighborhood as I may, I don't think I'd ever want my kids or pets or me rolling around in the grass of a new home at Battery Park. Build a home on the grounds of a century old battery factory that existed long before EPA....what could go wrong? (looks down at tumors on his arm and at the huge misshapen glowing tomatoes in the garden)

Unfortunately for your work commute, not sure anything in Collinwood, despite Waterloo's booming, is suitable for a young family yet. It's still full of petty crime sorry to say. Nottingham area houses are nice, and you'd be at work in a few minutes, but lots of angry racist white folks scared about you-know-who moving into the neighborhood. Went into a bar there and I saw very racist posters behind the bar. All I needed to see. That and the Clubs on steering wheels and locked chain fences with big guard dogs all through the neighborhood. Just a vibe I don't think you'd want judging from your posts. Shore Acres is kind of the same way despite the cool homes, lake access, and sense of community. Privatized, and on lookout 24/7. Like a neighborhood on lockdown.

Maybe some side streets north of Lake Shore (as a previous poster suggested) around 185th or east to 200th?? Close to hospitals, some bargains on houses, and of course, the lake's there. Not to mention the "cred" you'd get for living close to the school and being in touch with the community. I'm a teacher and I know it can make a difference.

If you're sold on city culture what about a smaller Colonial in and around CWRU, maybe off Ford or Bellflower.

Nice to see a young couple that gets a baby and doesn't want to run away from the big bad city.

Their baby is only 2 months old. Give it time.

After we sat down and really compared Quay 55 to our other choice in University Circle, we are going with the UC location. Yes, it gets sketch up Euclid, but we won't be right on it and we are Cleveland smart. Gives us culture, arts, walkability, park, etc. And I do not see us running to the suburbs even when our daughter is older, sorry to say to anyones generalizations. We are from there and I'd never live in a Cleveland suburb. Either city or I'd go rural (Chardon, Grafton, etc.) Our plan is a condo downtown when we buy in a few years.

Regardless, University Circle seems right. In our spot there are a few young families who also moved in during the past year.

I live in that neighborhood, and I think some of your comments are a bit off base. Yes, there is some crime here. That said, I've lived here for over a year, and never had an issue. Once or twice, my garage door actually re-opened itself without me realizing, and it was open all day. I pulled in thinking for sure my stuff (nice bike, weed whaker, lawn mower, kayak) would be gone, but none of it was touched. I regularly check crime maps, and crime does happen, but it's not really that bad compared to other city neighborhoods.

I can sort of see where you're coming from with regard to the racism thing. I have seen some of that kind of thing in Euclid, but my feeling is that most of those types of people have already left North Collinwood by now. It would be hard to live here if you weren't tolerant of different cultures and ethnicities, being that the area is well over 50% African American. I'm curious what you saw at the bar, and which bar you saw it at?

So you went with Circle East? That's good, I'm glad families are moving there. Do be careful walking there at night. I'm not sure if the UCPD covers that area, but East Cleveland is notoriously broke, and their police department is understaffed. Being close to UC is indeed a plus, but being in East Cleveland is a minus, just because the city has no money for basic services like police, or fixing the roads.

Not sure if you're joking, and it's a moot point, because the OP chose a different neighborhood, but I'm fairly certain the site was remediated of contaminants before new development was allowed to happen.
