How come the roads in the Cleveland metro look like they're in BAD shape, based on looking around on Google street view? Is this the reality of the metro roads?

I guess you have to visit for yourself and see. Honestly, I've never had any problem with them/noticed any significant difference to most anywhere else. You may have just been looking at a rough patch. My car has only been destroyed by the roads a few times, I wouldn't worry about anything. (Kidding. I've never had a problem period where I've gone.)

At this point, get in the car and drive or fly to CLE in the next few months. Spend time in a few areas. You are trying too put way to much into online photos and news articles. I would never buy a car without driving it and so forth. Yes, research helps, but at some point, you have to put your hand up the Bull's ass to make sure it's worth it! (Tommy Boy).

Well of course I plan to visit. It's just that I'm not allowed to take any time off from work until May. So for now, all I can do is dream about it and look on Google and pictures online and talk in forums.

My friend in Akron referred to Cleveland as "the mistake on the lake." Lol I never heard that before until now. But he said that most people who visit the city are impressed nowadays.

I just spent more time on Google looking up stores and am very happy to see that my favorite big box stores seem to be spread out all over the metro!

Also, I kind of like the scenery a lot more now. There are still hills here and there, but it's also nice when you can see far down the horizon at the end of the road.

I can't wait!

Eastern suburbs are much more hilly than western suburbs, but there are good river valleys throughout much of Greater Cleveland.

Best advice I can give you is just be present where you are now to the best of your abilities. Spend time with family/friends you care about/anything else that gives you purpose while there, deal with Cleveland when you visit. I'm not the best at doing that always but I think it holds true. And yeah Cleveland has some pretty good shopping overall I feel like.

My friend in Akron said that northeastern OH has been getting overnight lows as low as -35 or -40 lately. Is this true?! Holy crap....not sure I can't handle that!
