Hi all,

I'm viewing homes in RRiver and a number state, "Beachcliff." Is this a housing development or area of RR? What is the significance, if any?

Thanks- Rob

Beachcliff is a neighborhood bordering the RR river and lake. It has nice little shops (plus a Heinen's) and many places to eat/drink. It's a walking neighborhood. There is also an area called Tangletown that has a tangle of residential streets that are fun to walk/bike in. The whole area is in the northeastern section of RR. I live in the old Westlake Hotel (now Condo's) which overlook the river and lake. It's a great old Spanish mid-rise that looks like something straight out of old Florida.

The area is just across the bridge from the entrance to the Rocky River Metro Parks. On the whole it's a great neighborhood that, surprisingly, is little talked about as far as unique Cleveland areas to live in.

To add to townley1's comment, Beachcliff I is generally thought of as any of the streets North of Lake Rd. in Rocky River. I would say that it includes streets like Avalon and Aberdeen that extend west of Wagar as well.

Beachcliff II is the area south of Lake and North of Detroit. Although it technically spans the city length east to west, I'd say it's more like between Morewood Pkwy and Elmwood (including Kenwood which extends west of Elmwood). There are no public beaches in RR that you are legally allowed to swim, but occasionally some folks do use the beach at RR park to swim despite obvious signs prohibiting it.

These are areas or sub divisions of Rocky River. They are considered the 2 most "exclusive" neighborhoods of the city and come with some perks depending on what parts of these neighborhoods you live. Like access to private beaches (e.g. Wagar, Parklawn or Oakwood Beach).

From the linked PD article:
The Beach Cliff Number One neighborhood in Rocky River includes homes on the North side of Lake Road, West to the Bradstreet's Landing, North to Lake Erie and East to the Rocky River. Historically, The Beach Cliff Biddies' membership was open only to women residing in Beach Cliff One with Oakwood Beach privileges, meaning those homes located East of Rocky River Park. However, Patterson says in an effort to increase membership, she would like to "open up the club to auxiliary memberships for all women of Beach Cliff One, provided Oakwood Beach be used only by those with Oakwood Beach privileges." Beach Cliff One residents, residing West of Rocky River Park, have privileges at Rocky River's Wagar and Parklawn Beaches.
