^^I think rape is too inconsistently reported to give it any credence…at least when comparing to previous years.
Good to see homicides down.

Yeah, thats true. It is kind of inconsistent, but 59% is a huge increase, so there had to be at least some increase in the actual crime. Cleveland for some reason has always had a very high rape-rate though. Not sure why that is.
Its also good to see the homicides down, however we will have to wait until the warmer months to see what happens. I remember last year the summer was crazy, for a while there it seemed like there was a murder every other day. Hopefully it wont be so crazy this year, St. Clair-Superior especially needs a break after last year.

St. Clair-Superior did have it bad last year, a break is certainly needed. When did the homicides start picking up last year? Was it around April-May or was it in the summer months?
I know Euclid has nothing to do with Cleveland as far as the murder rate, but I heard on the news that a 54 year old woman was shot and killed in her home. I think it is unusual to hear of a murder in Euclid, I wonder if they have any leads yet.

Im not sure exactly when the homicides started picking up. I remember by this time last year it was already higher than average. I think they started picking up around May. Coincidentally the crime decreased when the cavs were beating the Pistons, but it seemed like after they lost in the finals that it went crazy again. And then of course there was the 6 or 7 murders from 3 different incidents on the 4th of July, and after that it was pretty crazy for a long time.
There was another murder in Cleveland, it was accidental so I dont know if its considered a homicide or not but that would bring the number to 21 or 22. For Euclid its not that unusual to hear of a murder, last year it had a few, it probably averages about 2 or 3 a year. East Cleveland also had 12 murders last year...For a city of 26,000? That makes it comparable to E STL, Gary, Camden, and Compton. East Cleveland is doing horrible, 40%+ poverty, tons of abandoned houses.

Another murder happened on Tuesday night. That brings the city total to 22 murders.

Cincinnati is at 6, but I know that the summer months bring out the craziness in people, I expect that number to grow starting in May ...

Yeah, pretty much all cities that get cold for part of the year start getting bad when the summer months come up. If Cincinnati is at 6 I think thats pretty good for the city.
Also, I think they ruled that accidental murder a homicide, not sure though). There was another shooting yesterday. So far the homicide count for Cleveland is at 23.

The 23 is not counting the case of Mario Williams from Canton who was found in Lake Erie six weeks after he went missing. The story goes like this. They were at a rap concert in the flats in late February. There was a fight involving his group inside the club. There were shots fired outside the club. He was seperated from his group, but his cell phone was found in the parking lot with a picture of him tied up inside a trunk of a car. On April 6, six weeks later, they pull his body out of Lake Erie but the coroner ruled it an accidental drowning.
Yeah, I'm sure he decided to go for a swim in Lake Erie in February. I don't buy that one for a second and from reading the Canton newspaper, the family doesn't either. I have to think that since he was a young black male from out of town at a rap concert, the coroner office did a half-assed job and said it was a drowning instead of trying to do a real investigation and bring some closure to the family.
I won't try to claim to know what happened, but it doesn't sound accidental.
It's a shame that this hasn't been a bigger story. Here are a couple articles from the Canton paper.

The current homicide count is 22, I just checked on Cleveland.com. They said that kid who shot his sister was an accidental murder, but still a homicide, that was the 21st one and there has been 1 more since then.
Mario Williams should have been ruled a homicide, but I guess wasnt. If they said he drowned that was kind of dumb, what probably happened was he got in a fight and some guys killed him and dumped him in the water. But either way RIP.

They probably didn't even kill him directly. Fight happens, tie him up (or maybe skip this) and throw him in the near freezing lake in the middle of the night. He may have been drunk and not a good swimmer which would equal disaster very quickly in the cold waters.
