Cleveland has around 65 right now and we can expect another 50 easily.
it's at least 40, what is so unbelievable about it? and cincinnati has had more than 90 in a year, but the city has kept some suspicious records over the years.

I've read that article before. At the time the murder rate wasn't so bad. But to say, "Officers said that the city has seen a 20 percent drop in homicides for two years in a row..." It didn't specify what two years and if they mean the most recent years their math is way off:

2005 = 79
2006 = 89
2007 = 62

But there is a 30% drop from 2006 to 2007 and that looks real good. I wouldn't assume a city as a model though based on a one year difference. PDs have been busted fudging numbers and the FBI often reduces them regardless.

Using cameras and placing additional visible cops in hot spots has been effective for PDs that have done that. Philly's chief said they would have a 25% reduction this year and they have a plan that's working right on target.

I didnt say it was unbelievable, I just said I doubted it. I wouldnt be surprised if Cincinnati did have 40 or more homicides already though. But seeing as 89 is the highest ever recorded in Cincinnati for a year, 40 does seem high for this early in the year. Even if its at 40 or higher thats really not that bad, just a little high for Cincinnati. There is a lot of cities that are doing a lot worse than that right now.

If August is "early" in the year, what is late -or mid to you?

From UrbanOhio (8/11):

Quote:
Does anyone know what the REAL homicide number is after the shooting in Mt Auburn this morning. The Enquirer is reporting 41 while 39 was mentioned on WLW?
Quote:
If you go with the higher of the two numbers, and project out given the current rate, then Cincinnati is on tract for 65 homicides for 2008.

Homicide Totals
2005: 79
2006: 85
2007: 67
2008: 65 (projection that is on the high side given normal winter slow downs)
