Default Info needed on moving to olmsted falls

I am a retired person planning on moving back to Ohio from NY. I had to leave Ohio in the early 80's due to employment. Now I am retired and need and really want to move back to Ohio. I grew up on the west side of Cleveland and as an adult had to move form Mentor and than on ward to NY. I lam planning on selling my house in NY and want to buy a place in Twin Oaks a subdivision in Olmsted Falls on Cook Road. My question is does anyone have any info they can giving me on the area and the regulations on these subdivisions. I have noticed on the internet that many of them have restriction on pets and some do not and Twin Oaks does not mention any. I am a dog lover and have an elderly dog (14 years old) and would never give him up. However if nature calls him I would want do adopt another and give him a loving home as I did with one. I would rather hear from others than a real estate agent who's job depends on them selling a house. Any ideas or thoughts would greatly be appriecated. Thanks

eyebuck:

I can help. I live in Olmsted Falls.

I'll admit that I'm not a big mobile home community fan nor do I know what specific rules apply to that association, but I will say that my elderly grandmother thought of moving there (Twin Oaks), and that is one of the nicest mobile home communities that I've ever seen. VERY kept up and the presentation is amazing. Here is their info:

Twin Oaks Manufactured Home Community
27216 Cook Road
Olmsted Falls, OH 44138
(440) 235-3594

As far as Olmsted Falls goes, here is the scoop:

1.) Planes, Trains, and automobiles. Can't get around it. Drives everyone crazy.

2.) They are resurfacing Stearns Road to connect to Crocker Road. Not sure how *far* into Olmsted Falls they will actually go. The traffic is horrendous on Stearns Road, and it is a HUGE eyesore to everyone that drives down this main road (potholes, hillbilly lots of people that don't keep anything up except their lawn ornaments). Crazy. The city has cleared some land, but with no plans to develop it. Out money is severely mis-managed; old boys always voting for the old community members. However, it will probably be a matter of time before the majority of the young people moving in vote in some fresh blood and things will actually get done.

3.) TAXES, TAXES, TAXES. You will be HIGHLY taxed. Property taxes are 2.29% (based on a $100K home).

4.) Although we are taxed to death, we have no industry. Roads need work. Only one supermarket that is old and expensive. Taxes are pass in the name of the schools (which are outstanding). However, they need to do something about industry because that is the *chief* complaint by our citizens. We simply cannot absorb taxes anymore.

5.) It is very safe here. Cops are very responsive.

6.) Close to the Metroparks.

7.) Nice library.

8.) Our little town square is nice. I don't know how a lot of the little businesses survive (they aren't very visible); but it is nice.

I have to say that if we needed to do it all over again, I probably wouldn't move here. But I'm not retiring. I still have kids in school, and the taxes really are a strain on us. (They raised them twice in the past two years - - the city and county!).

Hope this helps! Good luck to you.

Thank you so very much for your info. It all is very very helpful to me, I think I would be very able to deal with all the slightly negative things you mentioned. I honestly think if I am able to sell my home here in New York I will trying to move into the Twin Oaks subdivision. I will give them a call and check on a few things and then make my final decision. As far as the TAXES, TAXES, TAXES is the main reason I need to leave New York. My property taxes are over $8000 a year for a 3 bedroom house on a road with no street lights, side walks, sewers, city water on less then 1/3 acre, oh and the sales tax is almost 9 % and gasoline is $3.35 a gal.
Good luck to you and your family.
