Hello everyone and thank you in advance for any tips or advice so myself and my partner yes both males and Hispanic are moving to Cleveland for work reasons. We don't know Cleveland very well so we are hoping we can get some tips on decent/good areas to live. What's important to us is to live in a diverse area, an area with public transportation, and places with restaurants and areas to stay entertained. The office is in beechwood, Ohio . Also I hear quite a bit about the gang violence in Cleveland does that typically happen in certain areas, and is it even safe to walk in the city at night or during the day ??
Any advice or tips would be greatful.

You don't need to worry about schools?

If so, then probably Shaker Heights or Cleveland Heights. Shaker's probably going to be better for public transportation (at least, the Rapid - not sure about busses). CH is likely to be cheaper. Commutes to Beachwood are going to be only a small amount different at worst.

By diverse, do you mean a neighborhood with a large gay presence?

Lakewood or Detroit-Shoreway come to mind, but they aren't convenient for Beachwood.

Tremont and Ohio City, mentioned in this article, also aren't particularly convenient for Beachwood.

cleveland is increasingly gay-friendly, yet challenges remain

Shaker Square definitely is worth checking. It has rail rapid connections with downtown. It also is convenient for University Circle, one of the best cultural districts in the U.S.

I second the Shaker Heights/ Cleveland Heights suggestion. The gang violence is really only a problem in certain inner city neighborhoods, which you'll never have any reason to set foot in. The main attractions are all in pretty safe areas: Downtown, University Circle, the Near West Side, Coventry, Shaker Square, etc.

Thank you everyone for your responses so far. No kids to worry about so schools not an issue, and by diverse just a little bit of all in one neighborhood it's always a plus.

Coventry area was really diverse when I visited this summer. I saw just about everything and thought, "This area is awesome!" No one cares who you are as long as you are nice, IMO.

Cleveland Heights also has a large gay presence, even if it lacks gay-specific businesses. Plenty of diversity in other aspects as well.

Cleveland Heights, IIRC, was the first municipality in Ohio to implement a Domestic Partner Registry, with same-sex couples in mind. It's a very progressive community.

Coventry Village, as others have suggested, is a very cool part of Cleveland Heights.

What everyone else said! Shaker, Cleveland Heights. Of the two, Shaker is the most residential, Cleveland Heights offers lots of opportunity to step out the door and walk to shopping and restaurants if you land in a neighborhood like Coventry or Cedar/Fairmount. Both are an easy commute to Beachwood.
