Help! Moving from Pittsburgh PA to Cleveland area - where should we begin looking for a home?
We currently live in Pittsburgh PA and have two elementary age children. We would PREFER a home in an area that would be closer on the PA side but with a commute of no more than 30 min. to Cleveland. Need to make sure schools are good and it's a safe neighborhood. Any suggestions are much appreciated. Thanks!

if you are coming to cleveland you should know that all pittsburgh steelers clothing has been banned within a 50 mile radias of cleveland browns stadium. so your commute will be longer than 30 minutes ! lol sorry i couldnt resist.... actually good luck here, both my friends from pittsburgh love cleveland.

watertiger, you are incorrect, the restraining order with pittsburgh steelers paraphernalia is now a 150 mile radius around cleveland browns stadium.

Look at Solon. A top rated school system, voted the best suburb by Cleveland magazine, great city services, new recreation center, very safe and homes in all price ranges. Located on the Southeast side of Cleveland. Commute will be a little more than 30 minutes but worth it.

Definitely second this post.
We wanted to live there but were priced out of the area.
That being said, you can find some great homes with your family size starting around $175k.
We wanted to live there due to its school system, the city services, the safety & the commute.

Pepper Pike, Beachwood, South Euclid, Shaker Heights, Mentor, Cleveland Heights. All of those are closer to PA and within 30 mins of Cleveland I think.
Also since the browns almost made the playoffs the radius has gone up to 100+ miles I think. Of course when the Browns were doing bad it was more like a 25 mile radius or less.

I was gonna say it was banned all across NE Ohio, but Youngstown metro has a lot of Steeler fans.
TheBurg, welcome to Cleveland!
Cleveland is a very similar city to Pittsburgh, minus the landscape. We both were big steel cities in the 70s, saw bad times in the 80s, and now are seeing huge rebirths, also both have been named most livable already in the 21st century. Their economies are still similar, both have a bustling medical and tech based economy.
Cleveland offers a variety of suburbs. Especially on the east side, where you would like to be located. Shaker Heights, Solon, Bedford, Brecksville, Sagamore Hills, and Independence. I would prefer a suburb located around the Cuyahoga Nat'l Park. Great biking and walking trails, waterfalls, large wooded areas. A great escape from an urban metro area. All of these areas have great school systems, some rated top 100 in the nation, and are very safe, and close to all the downtown entertainment.
I have a lot of family from PA that now lives in Ohio. Most have went to Columbus, but some live here in NE Ohio. I think you will notice a lot of people from PA in the NE Ohio region. Best of luck on the possible move.

121804 Question for ya
You said that you were priced out of Solon. May I ask where you chose to live and how you like it there. I was searching through what homes are available and they are a little more than we wanted to spend. Thanks for the advice.
