Default CA police officer thanks Cleveland

California police officer has a message for Cleveland: thank you! | fox8.com

<<“The Cleveland Police Department is the most professional I have ever worked with,” Corchado said. “They are very accommodating and we’re honored to be here . It’s a great relationship we have with them right now.”>>

Wow! Hopefully, the RNC has allowed the Cleveland PD to step up its game measurably!

Default Public Square emerging as an iconic center of free speech?

So says the NY Times:

http://www.nytimes.com/2016/07/20/us...onvention.html

Interestingly, the designers of the revamped Public Square hoped for this outcome!

Will Public Square increasingly gain fame as Cleveland's "Speaker's Corner," a tourist attraction at Hyde Park in London?

Default Transit, walkability Cleveland strengths in hosting the RNC, says Washington Post

Cleveland bashers take note:

<<That led Republican officials to weigh transportation heavily when choosing a site for 2016. And Cleveland outperformed five other finalists — Kansas City, Denver, Dallas, Cincinnati and Las Vegas — in public transit and walkability, according to the Cleveland Plain-Dealer:
“On two key measures – public transit and walkability – Cleveland ranked first among the six finalists for the 2016 Republican National Convention. A third benchmark – traffic congestion – rated Cleveland almost the least likely to have gridlock, trailing only Kansas City.”
In the city’s downtown core, where the convention is taking place, Cleveland’s transit scores are 90 and 84, respectively, according to walkscore.com. Some of the competitors fare equally in one category, but neither score as highly in both.>>

Default Security turns Cleveland into a Green Zone?

My understanding is that many commuters or working from home or taking days off.

Visitors are avoiding the city this week.

<<
Downtown streets are virtually empty; even city buses go by with almost no passengers. Police are everywhere and from everywhere, having traveled from other states to help out with the effort.

It doesn't look like the shining city on a lake Republicans and locals had expected would be showcased during this quadrennial event. Conventioneers joke it's more like the Green Zone in Iraq, a heavily secured area for Americans and their allies.>>

In Cleveland, a Convention That Seems Hardly Worth the Hassle | US News

Has anybody ventured downtown during the RNC?

The U.S. News article omits a key and lasting benefit to Cleveland from the RNC.

Apart from the renovated Public Square, Cleveland's big win from hosting the RNC is a much more muscular communications network. IMO, this makes the RNC a winner if the city survives the next few days in one piece.

Default RNC puts Cleveland Clinic CEO Toby Cosgrove in the spotlight

Actually, Cosgrove often is in the center of the national healthcare debate given the prominence of the Cleveland Clinic, but his views perhaps gain extra gravitas with the RNC in town.

Default Blame Cleveland's "white elevators" on RNC, not Cleveland

This is sort of funny, although certainly not politically correct.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/...-in-cleveland/

If the Dems had committed this faux pas, we might have heralded it as a sign of a new age in racial relationships, but I have a hunch that Dem black staffers quickly would have been aghast as such a labeling strategy. Apparently, the RNC had no such staffers.
