This thread is for stories focused on Cleveland as opposed to politics, as the media descends on Cleveland for the RNC.

For starters, here's the take from the Chicago Tribune, Atlanta Constitution Journal, and likely other major newspapers, this AP story is a very negative take on the city.

Thanks for the link. Seems like lazy reporting: play to stereotypes (don't challenge the reader), conclude what others have already concluded (don't challenge the writer).

Better to find the untold story, something that causes the reader to think.

Chicago media has always tended to have a negative view of Cleveland, so this is not surprising. Seems they resent the "Little Chicago" moniker some tag Cleveland with, rightly or wrongly. They must see Cleveland as an annoying upstart attempting to challenge their Midwestern superiority and must be put in its place.

Default NY Times: 46 things to do in Cleveland during the RNC

Amateurs. To get away from downtown's crowded restaurants, take the Blue or Green lines to Shaker Square for some of Cleveland's best restaurants -- Fire, Balaton, and EDWINS.

Shaker Square Restaurant Directory

Take the Red Line to Ohio City for Crop as well Great Lakes Brew Pub and Mitchell's (both mentioned in the article), or the West Side Market Cafe, open for breakfast daily and a great legacy Cleveland dining location.

Take the Red Line to the Little Italy/University Circle station. Go uphill for the likes of Mia Bella, Michaelangelo's, Etna, Trattoria, and several more restaurants, including Presti's Cafe and Bakery. Or go downhill to Uptown for Crop Kitchen, Ninja City, the Happy Dog at the Euclid Tavern, and several more possibilities.

Default Reuter's article features East 4th St.

A festival air, and unease, hang over pre-convention Cleveland | Reuters

Reuters also offers an article on advocacy billboards erected in Cleveland for the RNC (Trump and Cruz kissing is a laughable one):

Default NBC News says "once shining" city

Cleveland and Trump: An Odd Couple or a Perfect Match? - NBC News

It makes me laugh when the news media posits that Cleveland, especially downtown once was better than it is today.

They never visited the gritty Flats during the days of Cleveland's peak population. They have no memory of Cleveland's dilapidated sports venues, only one located downtown. They don't remember the pollution. They have no grasp of the improvements in the Cleveland lakefront, including the Rock Hall and Great Lakes Science Center. They assume PlayhouseSquare always was there, and don't grasp how improved are the Cleveland Museum of Art, Severance Hall, Cleveland Botanical Garden, the Cleveland Clinic, and University Circle in general.

Downtown Cleveland once did have great department stores, and the old Uptown entertainment district and the old grand vaudeville/movie theaters offered an entirely different entertainment experience. Short Vincent definitely is missed, but again, there was now Gateway District and Warehouse District, let alone the Flats. Cleveland also once had many great corporate headquarters and banks downtown.
