Case Western/University Hospital
I am thinking about taking a job at University Hospital Case Medical Center, how is the area around there, I would like to live in walking/biking distance. Is there anything around there that is safe and affordable? I don't care about quality of schools or anything, just looking for a good, cheap bachelor pad.

Cleveland Heights and the entire UC area is loaded with housing options that are in very close proximity. Check around apartment guides, there is something for every budget.
The area is very nice, once you get in the city and get out of University Circle and Little Italy, it becomes more dicey, but as long as you stay in the Hts or the Circle, it is safe and friendly.

The prices vary widely. It really depends on the location and amenities. A rough estimate would have apartments ranging from $400-$800 but again, every property is different.
The area on top of Murray Hill in the heights is very popular with students who bike down to Case and UH. These are mostly older apartments but they have stunning architecture and many also have good views.

I agree with everything said and will add that the area mentioned is about to undergo alot of construction and redevelopment. New shops condos and apartments will be popping up in the next two years. Additionally the Euclid Corridor Project is installing an articulated bus line that will run from Public Square in downtown and will end at Windemere station in East Cleveland and will be completed by 2008. The buses will come every five minutes, have their own dedicated lane, and have closed circuit television. I'm telling you about this because there are also housing options downtown you can afford and this service would be beneficial. Until then the RTA red line also provides rapid transit service to UC.

apartments for rent close to university hospital
When I worked in the University Circle area, I rented an apartment at the Americana in Euclid (area called the silver coast). They have from efficiencies up to 2 bedroom or possibly more. the rent was quite reasonable, free heat, free water, air conditioning was essentially unnecessary as it was on the lake and the lake breezes usually cooled the apartment nicely...air conditioners were within the units. Amenities included an indoor and a separate outdoor pool, a sauna and a whirlpool, balconies or patios (it was a high rise building), on a bus line that unfortunately was quite inefficient as you had to go downtown and then transfer either to another bus or the train and then to another bus. For additional cost, indoor parking was available. At the time I lived there, many residents and nurses also lived there so car pooling may be an option, especially with the increased cost of gasoline. I considered it to be a very safe area and it was very close to shopping and the freeway (which would occasionally be closed during very bad snowstorms but there are alternate routes to take to the university circle area. Another safe area is Lakewood and the high rises there are called the gold coast (the rent is considerably higher) but there are many older buildings with inexpensive rent. One thing to consider when choosing where to live is city taxes. RITA (regional income tax) is the local city tax. If you work and live in Cleveland, you only pay Cleveland tax - the last place I worked at, I paid 2% to the city I worked in and 1% to the city I lived in. Good luck at your new job....I have no idea why you want to work in the "rustbelt" but the wages are considerably higher than some other areas except the east and west coast.

Is there a coffee shop in UH? Thinking of expanding into this market which parallels our base in PA. This is more like Tuscany than Starbucks, etc. Your respective thoughts are appreciated.
