Interesting trivia about League Park. However the writer never mentioned that LP was actually built in 1891; he just references the redesign in removing the wooden stands for steel and concrete ones in 1909 and references stadium building upgrade costs to that date (I wonder what the costs for building the stadium itself in 1891). I've driven by there over the years including 2 years ago -- noting how it's evolved from a few rotting, neglected structures around a weedy enclosure into the thriving reborn ball field of today. The City has done a wonderful job of preserving the last remnants of LP: the wall along the 3rd base line (I believe) and the ticket office. There are brand new bleachers and the field itself is new. There is a small museum there only open Saturday mornings which has history dating to the period Cleveland team (the Spiders I believe they were called when LP was built). There is also info about the Negro Leagues... I really need to get to that museum when it's open. The only unfortunate thing is that the neighborhood around E. 66th and Lexington Ave. is in a dilapidated condition and it seems like a ghost town every time I go there even though its near rebuilt/rebuilding areas of the Hough area (with its newer Hough McMansions) and the Midtown corridor a few blocks south along Euclid Ave and RTA's Health Line BRT. I wouldn't say the area is dangerous, just empty and, well, not-so attractive: Ohio City, Shaker Square, University Circle it ain't....

Definitely worth the visit, though. Thanks for the article.

I knew they had transformed/renovated League Park and had read some article about it, but this article was interesting. Thanks.

It's neat to compare how the new layout compares to the original and to see in old photos the structure that remains today. I haven't really found any good photos online of the entire complex, so it is something I would like to see in person.
