Hello Clevelanders,

We live in Cincinnati and will be moving to Cleveland, specifically Wickliffe, for work. My wife will be joining me as well. We would like to live around Highland heights, Cleveland heights, Mayfield heights, Richmond heights areas so that we can get access to Cleveland Clinic at Beachwood as well as my workplace in Wickliffe. We are looking for a 2-bd apartment/condo (garage would be added benefit for winters) around $800-900. Any ideas for a safe and stable community/apartment name would be very much appreciated. We are Asian Indians and so a nearby Indian community, grocery stores and restaurants would be a plus.

Thanks much,
Senthil

My hunch is Solon and probably Orange have a higher Indian/Indian-American population than most 'burbs.

And East Cleveland is a city in grave condition; you mean to say the east side of Cleveland or the east side suburbs.

Many, if not most, of the suburbs in the Heights/Chagrin Valley have significant Indian communities and are diverse and open-minded places. This includes places like Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights, Beachwood, University Hts, Woodmere, Solon and some others. The Shaker Square area, just inside Cleveland adjacent to Shaker Heights, is a very nice area of the city with a significant Indian community, as well... Indeed, the variety and quality of housing in this particular region is among the best in the nation and is jaw-dropping price-wise compared to similar housing outside New York or any East Coast cities (thrown in LA, SF and Chicago as well).

... The advantage of any of these communities to you is that you will be close to Interstate 271 (technically known as the "Outerbelt East") which is busy but manageable (with express lanes most of the way) and gets you, northbound, to Wickliffe in 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic. These region also has added perks, like being close to tons of shopping, including Beachwood Place mall, which is the most foo-foo shopping center in NE Ohio, based on its number of high-end stores, as well as being close to the Blue and Green Lines of RTA's rapid transit, allowing for quick trips into downtown Cleveland which has been undergoing a major renaissance in recent years.

Solon has an Indian grocery, not sure what the numbers are, but that population seems to be significant enough for an enterprise to thrive. There was a plan last year to build an Indian community center in Solon, but I'm not sure what became of that.

My neighborhood in Solon is a solid 1/4 Indian, and Solon is definitely the center of Indian culture in Cleveland.

The Indian Cultural Center project was abandoned after lack of funds, and the land it was supposed to be on is still vacant.
