Default pollution?

I am thinking of moving to Westlake or Avon. A couple concerns...1) too close to the airport? noise, more pollution? 2) high level of lead? (I have two children, 4 and 5 yrs) 3)and overall, those area is listed 8th worst polluted in the states. But my question is how much those factors are actually affecting people?

Cleveland as a whole is 8th in a nation. Although, 'dirty' air / bad quality air days are much much much less than say LA.

Westlake and Avon would be totally fine. Avon was just a rural area not too many years ago. Any high levels of lead, chemicals, etc would be concentrated around the flats, and any of the other former/still industrial areas around town(not westlake or avon). This is not the 70's when you would feel grimy after coming out of downtown. I would worry more about what the government allows companies to put into your food, and tainted toys from China than worrying about the ground.

I wouldnt think that Avon or Westlake would be that polluted. The Cleveland area I guess is pretty polluted compared to other cities but thats because so much of the city is industrial with factories and plants. Avon and Westlake are pretty far from the Industrial valley, Cuyahoga river and all the other industrial areas so I think it should be fine. I know a lot of people that live around the area and I have never heard a problem having to do with pollution.

Ford plant in Avon Lake. Although, I don't know if it's really 'noticeable' other than on paper.

I know that a few years ago, there was a big issue with Avon Lake residents who were concerned that the cancer rates in Avon Lake seemed higher than they should be, especially melanoma and childhood leukemia. Last I heard, the gov't and health dept said that everything was fine but residents were still concerned over the levels of chemical pollution in the area and its effect on the health of the residents. I'm sure if you google it you could get some current info.
