Younger Bars & Nightlife in South Euclid
I just moved into the South Euclid area and was trying to get a feel for where younger people tend to hang out (I'm 22). I live between Cedar/Mayfield & Warrensville/Green.
There seems to be a lot of bars (doing a quick Google maps search) located within the area, but rather than me going in and "feeling out" each one, it'd be great if someone could point me in the direction of some younger type bars. I'm pretty sure I had heard the Winking Lizard is nearby and may be more of my thing?
Also, it'd be awesome if someone could explain RTA and the bus lines. I'm coming from D.C. where everything is on a SmartCard (something I think Cleveland is adopting by 2010) and your fares are automatically calculated correctly. I can't for the life of me figure out the most economical way for me to get around the city -- say I just want to take a few bus trips every so often (so I'm not driving drunk!) and take the Rapid ocasionally to get downtown?
Finally, I just want to say my experience with Cleveland so far has been AMAZING -- it's only been a week and I've been thoroughly impressed with the city and its people -- there's an uncanny friendliness...something one could never find in D.C. -- I could get used to this...

I know Bar Louie over in Legacy Village can be pretty busy on the weekends (maybe not so much in the winter though). Anything down in Coventry is going to be pretty busy with the younger crowd (head down Mayfield road towards downtown, it is the intersection with a gas station before you hit Lakeview Cemetery). Downtown in the Warehouse district is always busy on weekends. South Euclid is more families, not nearly as much drinking and craziness as you will get downtown. Sometimes Champs over in Mayfield Heights can be busy, especially in the after work hours. Same goes for Scorchers and Winking Lizard in Bedford.

Coventry is the area that has the Winking Lizard ( 1852 Coventry Road, cleveland hts - Google Maps). Definitely an 18-25 year old hangout type of area in Coventry

Boneyard is on mayfield. They have a happy hour and bands sometimes.
And Bar Louie was a good suggestion.

If you want bars. I mean A LOT of bars with mainly young people. Head out to Lakewood for a night. 120+ bars and I can personally list about 10-15 suited for 21-25 year old age crowd.

The Grog Shop is good place to hang out from what I hear, that's in Coventry as well. They have shows for pretty cheap there. Buffalo Wild Wing Bar & Grille on Mayfield in Lyndhurst is cool to, I use to go there all the time with my friends. Especially if a good football/basketball game is on that night.

I am 25 years old and still goto bars on the weekend... the number one place to be for younger people is coventry, they have paninis, mcnultys, jhonny malloys, one right next door hukah bar, grog shop, and wine bar. There are a few bars on mayfield rd, paninis, bone yard, bw3, fox and hounds. Bar of louie is a good time, depending on the night there are some good crowds. Also there are alot of brs on lee rd b/w silbys rd and cedar. Lee rd and coventry are mostly john carroll students. You can also go downtown to west 6th area, alot of fun especailly when when the weather gets nicer. You can take the rapid home but probably have to take a cab home. also lakewood is a good time but from east side is like a 40 min drive. hope that helps

Is the House of Swing on Mayfield still around? That might be an older crowd. Otherwise, South Euclid is for families, mainly.
As far as RTA fares go, it's pretty simple. All bus and rapid fares are the same, no matter how far you go. If you plan on riding 5 days a week, get a monthly for $63. Otherwise, you can buy 5-trip cards that don't actually save you money over regular fares, but they're at least convenient.
On that note, I think more metro areas should probably emulate the DC system, where fares are dependent on zones or distance traveled. It's likely more economically efficient not to have short haul riders subsidize long riders, although it increases the complications of fare collection. Perhaps when Cleveland institutes a smart card program it can also implement such a fare system.

If you ever get tired of all the partying, and want to look for a deeper meaning for your life,I would recommend trying a church in the area.Lyndhurst has First assembly church, which also hosts a Messianic Jewish church in its building on Saturdays.Christian Assembly in Richmond Heights is a small, mostly Italian church.Euclid has Bible Baptist Temple, the minister there is caring, kind, and a true man of God.I am not being mocking,I found great peace, meaning, joy, and a wonderful husband this way.Just wanted to share that thought with you...Aligal
