That's some interesting data in the link tribecavsbrowns provided. The link doesn't say what year the numbers are from but they look recent. Brecksville and Westlake are the first cities on the westside that show up on the list at 19th and 20th in per capita income respectively.

I think these are all the communities in NE Ohio that made the top 100 list:

Rank, Place, Per Capita Income, Median Household Income
1 Hunting Valley $144,281 $200,000+

I always heard that the Village of Indian Hill near Cincinnati was the richest area in Ohio but that list says its the second. Ive been to Kirtland Hills once, it was very very nice.

Many times when they put these kind of lists together for publication they have a minimum population requirement of 1000 or so which puts Indian Hill at the top of the list in Ohio. For a list in Ohio, a good minimum cut-off might be 1600 which is the minimum population for incorporation. Some of the smaller population places on the list are little more than isolated enclaves built around golf courses and private lakes.

Yeah I think they should put out a list of like the wealthiest towns in Ohio with populations over 2,000 or something like that. Some of those towns/villages on there have less than 1,000 people.

It always surprised me that even though the city of Cleveland is the poorest in the country (at least top 5) that the suburbs are very wealthy. The Eastside of Cleveland and Pepper Pike are like 2 completely different worlds. It was also surprising that Cleveland made the worlds first billionaire (john D. Rockefeller, still the richest man that ever lived), and now its one of the poorest cities. Its like a signal of the change of times. East Cleveland and the Eastside of Cleveland used to be home to huge mansions, now they are made of of mostly decayed neighborhoods and housing projects, and most the mansions are gone.

Bratenahl close to the top of the list was surprising to me though. I knew it was rich but I didnt think it was higher than Pepper Pike and all the others.

It doesn't suprise me that Bratenahl was close to the top of the list. There is some big houses there. But its weird too because when your in Bratenahl, your close to some bad areas of Cleveland.Your literally like a minute away from St. Clair when your in Bratenahl.

Yeah, I posted about that before. I was very surprised to see how much of a difference it was from Glenville to Bratenahl. I went from seeing endless boarded up houses/stores with gang graffiti to seeing 500k+ mansions within 2 minutes. It could probably be on the list of the largest contrast between rich and poor or something like that within a short distance.

Yeah,I lived pretty close to St. Clair on E. 185th for most of my life.I grew up on the Euclid side of it,the area is North Collinwood.I've been on St. Clair many times.I don't think I've ever seen anything like that anywhere else though.Where you go from a big poverty area like Glenville, and than within a very short distance your in very wealthy area.Have you ever been on Lakeshore Blvd? Some of the areas on that street are somehwhat decayed but than as you go keep driving into Euclid it gets better.Still not like the Glenville and Bratenahl contrast though.

When the Westside of Cleveland doesnt have nearly as much poverty as the eastside but the suburbs on the westside arent that wealthy.

That heroin bust in Westlake was no surprise to me at all really. Everyone seemed to surprised about how drugs could get into Westlake and how its going downhill now because of that, drugs have been in the suburbs for years. I live in North Ridgeville and there are drugs here but they dont really cause any problems, and we never have murders. I dont see drugs being a big problem in a community unless they have the crime and problems that comes with it. Like the city of Cleveland has robbery after robbery, and murder after murder over drugs where as in Westlake they never have robberies or murders. In fact westlake hasnt had a murder in over 10 years, and the crime rate is way below average.

You'll find drugs in almost every high school, and the more money available, the more expensive drugs can be purchased.
