Commute from Beachwood to Elyria
Got a job offer from a company in Elyria and am looking for a house. After learning heavy air pollution from a power plant in Avon Lake, I wonder where to live. Some suggested East side such as Beachwood but how long do I have to drive every day? I would like to live in a cleaner area rather than a long drive. Thanks.

Avon Lake would still be fine, obviously not by the plant since you're worried about pollution. Depends on if you're renting or buying a house, but Westlake and Bay Village are fine areas, and the commute would not be that long since you'd be going the opposite way of traffic in the morning. You can also try out Fairview Park, Lakewood, or Rocky River. I would not recommend living in Beachwood then driving to Elyria. It would be too long for me in the first place along with having to go through rush hour traffic. I'd say on a good day you could get there in 45 minutes or so, with rush hour traffic on I480, I'd give it maybe anywhere from 10-25 more minutes. 480 tends to jam up alot going both ways, since the majority of the people going west are trying to get onto 77N, which ends up being somewhat blocked up as well. Usually though once you get passed that you'd be fine, you then could either take it to the turnpike, or take the Jennings Freeway, to 90 and then continue west.

That would be a hellious commute everyday. You are talking at least 60-75 mins on good days.
Who would give such a suggestion?
There are a bunch of cities on the westside & south of Cleveland that are very nice & your commute would be logical.
Some decent areas are Rocky River, Bay, Westlake, North Olmsted, Strongsville, North Royalton, Fairview Park, Berea, North Ridgeville.
Avon Lake & Avon are very nice. The power plant does not give off heavy air pollution.

Thank you for your input. So I guess I should not be concerned so much about pollution around there. (Ater I found all kinds of data, such as childhood cancer rate, MS rate in surrounding area, etc, honestly I got so scared! But I could not find any specific data that showed those rate in the are are significantly higher than any other place, which was also so frustrating anyway.) Thanks again!

I definately recommend living on the west side. If Beachwood appeals to you then I would suggest looking into Westlake or Rocky River. If you reconsider the pollution, then Avon would be a great fit too.

This post makes me laugh. The air quality is not going to be much worse, if worse at all in those areas. You act as though a smog of pollution will cover the city, leaving it dark and infested with dangerous chemicals. In my humble opinion living in Beachwood and driving to Elyria everyday would be absolutely absurd... Not to mention all those Factories and Plants you will drive by on the way polluting your lungs!

Avon Lake and Bay Village are very nice places to live. Great school systems, safe, and nice beaches, not a far drive from Downtown Cleveland.

I wouldnt recommend living anywhere east of Cleveland if you have to work in Elyria, thats like a 45 minute drive to work everyday. There are lots of nice places within 10-15 mins of Elyria. North Ridgeville, Avon, Avon Lake, Amherst, Vermilion, Westlake, Sheffield Lake, and Rocky River, and Strongsville are all very nice places within 20 mins of Elyria.
Also there are tons of people that still live in that area so Im guessing that the pollution cant be that bad. I never heard of a real problem with the pollution in that area.

The population of western Cleveland is growing at a great rate. Westlake, Avon Lake, Bay Village, Olmsted Falls, Brook Park. They are all doing well.

Though off topic, do you have stats to back up this statement?
I do know that Bay has seen an increase in home prices.
Brook Park is less than desirable. Don't know why people would be purposely flocking there.
