Hastings Ave Area
My thanks to those of you who replied to my earlier post about a neighborhood in Cleveland. I have decided to look elsewhere! Can anyone tell me if the Hastings Avenue area is a good place to live? (Near the Euchlid Ave / North Taylor intersection.) How about Newburgh Heights? It's farther from East Cleveland, which I'm learning is best to be avoided.

City gal here.aaah, no. high crime area. Whats your price range? Do you want to be near work? or what type of recreation? I do not know a lot about newburgh heights, but it is quieter and less crime than East Cleveland (which, yes has a pocket of a very nice, safe area, but they tend too be fancy single family homes)

Thats right near the Cleveland/East Cleveland border which is a really rough neighborhood. Hastings ave. is not a nice place to live right now at all. I believe it was just a few blocks away where there was some serious crimes and murders that happened last year. I think Hastings ave. is in East Cleveland but Im not sure.
Newburgh Heights is a lot better than the Eastside of Cleveland or East Cleveland but its still not the nicest. Its livable though, I would have no problem living there. It all depends on what you are looking for. Newburgh Heights is basically in Industrial Valley and there is a lot of large factories and industry around, not to mention its just a few minutes from some rough neighborhoods in the city of Cleveland. It all depends on watch your budget is.

Newburgh Heights has potential, however there are downsides. First its cut in half by I77. For living sakes, the eastern side is not the place to be since its surrounded by Slavic Village(Cleveland and becoming ever so worse). The western side is the bigger side, a small portion of Cleveland borders it on the north, while there is industry to the west and south(Harvard Ave and the Valley). The school system is also attached to Cleveland's so thats not a good thing either. The actual city is interesting and can vary. Many of a houses are pretty diverse, some will have landscaping, while others won't. There is also a golf course on the north side too. So while you might be able to get a decent house for cheaper than what a same type of house would get in a better area, you've got to think for the future, and while it might be a decent area, with mini parks, etc. Its closeness to a worsening area of Cleveland will not help it.

Ok, thanks. The house is a block from the golf course, near Beyerle Road.

That road is in Cleveland I'm pretty sure. Once you pass up Fleet, everything north of that is Cleveland. Around the golf course is okay. You go any further down Independence Road, and the houses get really crappy, along with some boarded up ones by the high way, then you go down into the valley.
