While I think this Ohio City listing is too high and will probably sell for a lot less, I don't see a Shaker vs. Ohio City difference in high priced houses. Both are totally different and yet both can demand high prices for homes for different reasons. Ohio City is one of the, if not the, urban-trendy neighborhood in Cleveland. This house is historic; the neighborhood is walkable and there are tons of shops, restaurants, the West Side Market, Dave's Supermarket and the rapid transit (1-stop to downtown) nearby...

Shaker is, and has been, popular because it's away from urban noise and smog up on a hill (the Heights, of course). Lots are older, large, houses are spread out architectural gems. It's a traditional old-money, Main Line-type suburb. The northern portion of Shaker along with the adjacent southern edge of Cleveland Heights are similar to ritzy suburban areas you'd see outside of New York and Philly.

FYI,

That big Italianate house sold for 725k last month.

Verified by records on the County Auditor's website. That's pretty close to what I predicted at the beginning of this thread.

People are nuts for paying that much for the house/location. Maybe if it was on the lake with a built in pool.

Yes, and people are nuts for paying $3500 per month for rent.

Yes, and people are nuts for paying $3500 per month for rent there also. Even if I had the money to burn like that, I can find many better options in the city , metro or elsewhere than those houses/apts in that neighborhood. Imo

You could buy this and still have $200,000+ to buy a condo on the beach in fla. but that's just my opinion. Different strokes.

Dude seriously. You can't tolerate people even saying that housing prices are higher than makes sense. This is a position you can argue against. But that type of answer is just stupid.

I am far from clueless. It's called recognizing patterns. Hey go ahead and buy a house in Ohio city for 600-700k if you want. You're genius can really pay off.
