What is the living situation like in Newburgh Heights? I'm looking at renting a house out there. What is the former/current residents opinion of living there?

I'm thinking air pollution. It's better than it was decades ago when your laundry would come in off of the line orange and grey, but if you have respiratory issues I wouldn't do it.

Well I don't smoke so that wouldn't be a problem

Newburgh seems like a very quiet, secluded little area. If that sounds like something you would like, then you may enjoy living there. But please do keep in mind, Newburgh is basically surrounded by some very rough parts of town. I'm not sure, but I don't think crime really spills over into Newburgh very much, but I could be wrong.

How long are you looking to live there?

Could be a cool place to live once Fleet Ave finally pops and starts getting more commercial tenants.

There are definitely worse places to be next to than South Broadway, especially since it's one of the neighborhoods on the upswing.

Ehhh calling it an upswing is being overly generous. I'd say it's more of an ATTEMPT to stabilize.

Relative to what it what after the foreclosure crisis it's doing well.

I just really, really believe in the Slavic Village CDC. A bad CDC can be a terrible, wasteful organization (i.e. Cudell Improvement), but a good one can really get a lot done (Detroit-Shoreway Development Organization, Ohio City Incorporated). Fleet Ave is looking really good, they just need more occupancy.

Still, though, I think you could be way worse off in terms of what neighborhood you have next door.

Possibly for a year or two until I can save up for a down payment.

This is true. Their CDC is supposed to be one of the best, from what I've heard. We are just now stopping the bleeding in that neighborhood from the foreclosure crisis. Now we have to clean up the aftermath and slow the crime before it can start to take off again. That will be a very lengthy and difficult feat to pull off. I am pulling for that area too.

But if you are considering moving to Newburgh, it is good to know your surroundings. As of right now, Slavic Village is a blighted and crime ridden part of town. Good to keep that in mind. I don't think it really affects Newburgh all that much though. I personally like Newburgh Heights. There really honestly isn't much there in terms of businesses though; seems to be mainly industrial and residential, with the metro park system running through (which is a nice feature).

Any particular reason you were drawn to Newburgh Heights?
