Cleveland: Sports
I know that this should probably be in the sports section, but it has a lot to do with the state of the city and how peoples attitudes are so I want to post it in the Cleveland forum. Seeing how much everyones attitude in the whole Cleveland area changed when the Cavs became the Eastern Conference champions after beating the Pistons, and how good the city was doing when the Indians were 1 win away from playing in the world series.
When do you think that a Cleveland team will win a championship? and how, if at all, do you think that the city or the attitude in the city will change if we do win a championship?
I think our best chance is with the Cavs right now, but the Indians are right behind them. I thought it was kind of messed up last year that the Indians only had to win one more game, and then they would have probably beat the Rockies since the Red Sox swept the Rockies. There are a lot of good teams in the NBA, but I still think that the Cavs have a chance, especially once the new guys get settled in. The Browns even have a chance, after almost making it to the playoffs last season. I think the attitude in Cleveland will change a lot since right now we are looked at as a loser sports city. Its not that our teams our bad, its that their good but not the best. I really want to see Cleveland win a championship so that the city will be like it was when the Cavs won.

I think the time is coming near. You don't really hear negative comments like the one above mine anymore. Things are looking really good.

Im just so tired of people talking bad about Cleveland, including the people who live here. Im pretty sure that people have even moved out of the whole Cleveland area because of the image and they were tired of it. I met a lot of people in NYC that moved from Cleveland, and that was one of the things most of them hated about Cleveland, but not the main reason they moved.
It does seem like there is kind of a curse on Cleveland or something like it. We have come so close in all 3 major sports a couple of times. All that seems like it might change though since we have a person like Lebron James (which many people think is the best player in the NBA). Also the Indians are one of the best teams, and the Browns are coming up. I really hope that we can win a championship, or a couple within the next year. A lot of people are saying this is the year for it. For some reason the rest of the country will never let Cleveland win anything. We were once the 5th biggest city in the country, and Cleveland deserves much more than its getting now. Winning a championship is just the start of making Cleveland a great city, and area again.

I left Cleveland after living there my first 35 years and it was the best thing I could of ever done for my family. A place that has blizzards in March and only 80 days of sunshine per year is the reason that everybody has a bad attitude.
Do I miss Cleveland? NO. I miss my freinds and family. It is nice to wake up EVERY DAY and know that we are going to see the sun shine down here and we are going to be able to actually go outside and do something productive! The city is truly the mistake by the lake.

I was negative about Cleveland sports for a while. With the new players added to the Cavs, I think it will probably increase our chances of winning a championship. Probably not this year, but maybe in the next couple of years once the players are use to each other. Ben Wallace has won a championship before so he knows what it takes and can help his new team experience it, hopefully. I hope the Browns and Indians are successful this year, we will see.

Im also tired of Cleveland getting SO close and losing at the last minute. We have good teams now and I truly think that we will win a championship in the next year.
There is also too much talk about Lebron James leaving Cleveland and going to play in better places like NYC (The Knicks suck anyways). If Lebron James leaves Cleveland and gives up on the team and the city all together that will be the day that leave, but I doubt that day will come at all, especially anytime soon. If Lebron James did leave then I dont know what the city would do, that would be the worst day in Cleveland sports history. Im pretty sure that day will never come though.

People have different opinions on different places. Thats fine. I love Cleveland and what it has to offer. I know many people from around the country and world that have moved here. Over half of the houses around me, out of those, people moved here from out of state. I personally wouldn't want to move down south. The bad weather (hurricanes, droughts, tornadoes). How many people have died just in 2008 from the weather down there? Yes, snow sucks sometimes, but it can be nice too. But I would rather take snow in my driveway, than a tornado ripping my house apart.

I am a die hard Cleveland sports fan.I love to see the teams doing so good right now.The Cavs are currently 36-27 and are one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference. And I think the Cavs could easily repeat as Eastern Conference Champs as the eastern Conference is not that good this year.I also think they could win the NBA championship.Lebron is just on fire these past couple of games. He had 38 points today,38 or 39 the game before, and 50 points the game before that.Do the math,he's averaging around 42 points a game in the past three games.Than we got the Indians.Last year they went 96-66 and nearly won the American League. They just happened to run into the best team in baseball the Red Sox.If we would have made it to the World Series,I know we could have beat the Rockies.I think this year will be even better for The Tribe.Than theres the Browns. They went 10-6 last year which no one expected them to do.I thought they were going to win 8 or 9 games, but they even exceded my expectations. They've already made some huge signings getting Daunte Stalworth,Corey Williams, and Sean Rogers. And we have a very good quarterback situation.A quarterback who last year had 29 TD passes in Derek Anderson, and a good young talent in Brady Quinn. Also the Cleveland area is home to many other minor sports teams. The Lake Erie Monsters(Hockey),The Lake County Captians(Minor League Baseball, the Indians A league team),The Akron Arrows(Minor League Baseball,Indians AA team),and then the new Arena Football League team.Cleveland sports are doing very good right now.
