I like beaches, don't like shopping or eating out much. Planning to visit a beach for a week from Ohio. Thinking about Myrtle beach, however, this is not set in stone. Which are the best beaches within 10 hour driving distance of Cleveland?

I don't care for Myrtle Beaches, seem dirty to me. Just to name a couple (same distance as MB)Topsail, NC has nice beaches, Holden Beach is very nice beach but is more for young family and I find not much to do around there but if nice beach is criteria then very nice.

Wasaga Beach on beautiful Georgian Bay may be a great option in August (when the Great Lakes are warmest):

Jeopardy question about Great Lakes; how would you have done?

Michigan's Gold Coast is another option.

Much closer, Presque Isle is very popular in July and August.

Delaware beaches are my preference on the Atlantic Coast for July and August.

Here's a thread on local beaches, but also check out Huntington, Edgewater, and Fairport Harbor beaches.

Great beach?

At Geneva State Park and East Harbor northwest of Cedar Point, you can camp near the beach. Geneva also offers a state resort with popular wine tours.

As mentioned, the beaches along Lake Michigan are absolutely beautiful, and you can be there in 4 to 7 hours ... depending on where exactly you go.

I moved from OH to NC 6 years ago and their are many beaches better than Myrtle, but 10 hrs is pushing it to most of them.

My favorite NC beaches that are not as commercial as Myrtle would be Outer Banks, NC and the beaches close to Wilmington - Carolina Beach, Wrightsville Beach, Kure Beach.

These SC beaches are my favorite though: Isle of Palms in Charleston,SC & Hilton Head, SC.

Isle of Palm is very nice, u also have benefit of being next door to a great town, Charleston. I actually stayed at Wild Dunes over 5 yrs ago back and kid got bit by shark so we went over to Isle of Palms beach and wouldn't you know that another kid got bit by shark, both were within 25 ft of shore. They ended up having helicopters flying above looking for schools of sharks. Needless to say we took the kids to the waterpark the next day... HHI is on of my favorite go to places, plan to buy home there.
