after searching, I'm surprised to see there aren't many garfield heights posts. I don't know a whole lot about the city, I've been in and around it a handful of times, but I'm curious to know how living there really is? I keep hearing that it's "going downhill" or whatever, any truth to this? Are there certain pockets that are considered nicer than others? what are your guys' thoughts on the city overall? would you live there, why or why not?

Garfield saw booming growth in the mid-1900s, developing as an ethnic, blue collar suburb of Cleveland. Today, the city has some great assets, not the least of which is its location, but it's also changed quite a bit in the past decade and a half. There are a few pockets that are nice, but overall the city has suffered from spillover from Cleveland's struggling neighborhoods which has resulted in flight. It's not a terrible place, but overall I wouldn't suggest investing in property there for the foreseeable future.

I would stay south of I-480 in terms of living. Not a bad place if you're west of Turney and south of 480.

I would say avoid. If you look at the massive decline in Maple Heights the last 20 years, it's safe to assume Garfield heights will mirror it to some degree.

Ughh that sucks! I just love the central location of Garfield, it's easy to get anywhere east or west from there.... Looks like Old Brooklyn is back on the list...

I disagree. I think Garfield Heights has a larger economic base, a better city government, and a better location than Maple Heights. Garfield Heights is very close to Valley View and Independence, which are booming with businesses, and it has seen some spillover businesses, like the corporate headquarters of Overdrive, a tech company that produces e-books and internet content for libraries. E-books distributor OverDrive building $10 million world headquarters in Garfield Heights | cleveland.com. It also has Marymount Hospital, a Cleveland Clinic branch that employs about 1,200. In addition, it has a nice Metropark, which Maple Heights lacks.

That said, certain parts of Garfield Heights are almost as bad as the neighboring parts of Cleveland. But the further South and West you go, the better it gets, generally. Definitely stay South of Broadway.

Parma and Clevelands old Brooklyn neighborhood boarder each other. For not much more money, you can easily find something comparable with better city services and better kept up houses.

Yea but it would have to be the northern portion of Parma so I can have quick access to the freeway. If you're smack dab in the middle of Parma, I'd imagine it would be a pain having to deal with the traffic and getting to/from the freeway.
