Besides, this has come up before. Any city that’s ever been in a movie or someway in the public eye has had a negative or satirical video made about it. Most of the inhabitants of those cities just shrug it off.

I think most people who watch them just watch, maybe have a laugh and forget them. I actually think these silly videos get more notice by others from the people who complain about them. It encourages the curiosity of the uninitiated to want to see what all the fuss is about.

Maybe Cleveland just needs better marketing. Someone to hype it more. Seems like when I first moved to Seattle in 1989 it wasn't anything that great except for the scenery which is truly awesome. It was kind of nerdy and artsy. I remember a local comedy show making fun of some of the things in Seattle. But it got attention and picked up steam and now it's hot. But it still seems rather provincial in some respects and lost the charm it had.

The problem isn’t just Cleveland. It’s that the entire Midwest has a bad reputation—even Chicago.

Well I guess there is the crime element so maybe that's overshadowing the good aspects.

There’s crime in the big cities on the coasts, too.

Yes I know particularly Baltimore. But it seems we hear a lot about violent crime in Chicago and Cleveland so that could play a part in negative image.

I've actually been thinking about this... launching a blog, podcast, etc. All it takes is a re-framing by just a few people at the start... sometimes it can make a world of difference. My immediate plan is to explore the city as the weather breaks and take pictures of cool/beautiful scenes and then post them online in public forums like here, reddit and facebook. A small start.

That sounds like a great idea.

But, a lot of the liberal elitists or the those media outlets won't focus on that because it'll ruin their perfect, pristine image.

I hear more about crime in Chicago than Cleveland, I think it's unfair that the media pushes it as if only certain cities or regions have crime issues while ignoring others because of their own biases IMO. You don't hear the national media pushing the crime issues in Cleveland like they do with Chicago especially from the extreme right wing.
