Pretty sure what kickstarted the idea is the really poor condition of Puritas. It was going to get repaved anyway. Why not add some bike lanes and green space? And Cleveland is trying hard to be bike friendly.

Cleveland City Planning Commission

It's been noted in many national publications that Cleveland has been actually a front runner in becoming bike friendly.

Downtown West Park (Kamms), has already been transformed. Compare it to just a few short years ago.
New modern bars\restaraunts:
Westpark Station, Backstage Bar, Panini's, the new Red Lanetern opening soon, the shops on Kamms redevelopment, Chipotle, the WestPark Tavern upgrade. It really is a much nicer ped-friendly area now.

So I came across this the other day: Rust Wire » Blog Archive » Northeast Ohio’s Gathering Vacancy Storm

I've only spent a small amount of time in the Cleveland area, but I have friends that are from there or live there currently and I was just curious how the crowd here felt about the state of things. What do you all think of the article? Do you feel you can feel the vacancies in Cleveland more so than in other major metro areas?

Missing -

I think the article is worthwhile to expand upon. While I have some issues with the context and deduction that is presented in some of it, I believe that it was at least well intentioned on top of being misguided (i.e., Cleveland doesn't even rank all that high in vacancy rates). Citing a report from 2012, the highest US vacancy rates are in "sun belt" cities like Tampa, Orlando, Las Vegas, Richmond, Houston, and Atlanta. The only large, northern city that is even cited is Detroit and it ranked #4. In Ohio, the cities with the largest problems in that respect are Toledo and Dayton -- neither of them are in NE Ohio.

This conversation might be better suited in its own thread.

This came out a while ago but is still pretty cool. Adele was even scheduled to come there (during her first tour)...

btw I realize this doesn't pertain to development but it's a nice thought. I really wish I could look into the future to see Cleveland 25 years from now
