Grew up in New Philadelphia/Dover area and lived in Green for 10 years prior. Have been in Mooresville, NC for the last 8 years and looking to move back to NE Ohio mainly for family reasons.

I have an interview for a Supply Chain Mgr. position with Momentive in Strongsville next Monday. Anyone have any input on the company? Seems a little risky with there potential to split up their divisions and being sold to different companies.

Also any input on commute? I am thinking of probably living in Fairlawn, Medina, or Wadsworth as we still have family in Uniontown and Dover that we need to be closer to.

Schools are important as well so any input on that for these cities would be helpful. I have 2 in middle school right now that are in advanced classes and very active in sports.

Strongsville and schools are iffy. They had a strike a few years back, and hired scabs to sub for classes. A few years ago, but that stuff lingers. Not sure they're innovative, or strong on diversity (in race as well as mindset), but things may be changing, and don't know where you stand with such things (I'm a HS teacher, but not in NE Ohio anymore). Sports are big for sure. You'd probably be ok.

Most recent thing I heard about Strongsville schools (this year) was that they were trying to pass a levy, but that their financial situation was such that even if it passed they would have to cut some programs. I think those cuts were to include sports.

Very surprised to hear it. I graduated from Strongsville 40 years ago, and the schools were excellent back in the day.

What do they do at the strongsville location? What applications are there at the R&D division. They are headquartered in waterford, NY?

It doesn't sound like the poster is planning on living in Strongsville so I don't think Strongsville schools are much of interest.

I can speak to the commute, as I actually do the reverse (Strongsville to Fairlawn). You're obviously looking at I-71N, and potentially some of Rt 18 (Depending on where you land). Traffic in the morning North bound tends to build up North of Royalton Rd where you'll be getting off so you should miss most of the buildup. Same thing heading southbound in the Afternoon (Royalton is kind of the cutoff for traffic both ways as you get away from the Turnpike). The Royalton Rd/South Park Mall Exit in general is a mess, so you may be looking at the worst of your commute at the very end. The other downside with Fairlawn is you'll have to deal with Rt 18 most likely, which is not a great drive, and depending on where in Fairlawn could be more so. Basically, it's a 35 min drive from I-77 in Fairlawn/Montrose to Strongsville. If you land in Medina that's a different story as you could avoid 18 and I-71 all together and use Pearl all the way to work. Depending on what part of Medina you could look at a 20-25 min commute.

It was a supply chain position there. I turned down their offer as it was lower than I expected and they are planning on splitting up their divisions- selling silicone/semi-conductor to a Japanese company and then quartz/ ceramics combing with a private US company that is about $4B company. Job was in ceramics and is only $500m so too risky for me I think that they would consolidate in the near future.
