Interesting…I may be late to the party, but did not know this was in the works.

“Bartlett’s plan is to build enclosed production facilities in both cities to work on submarines. He said it's a multi-billion dollar project funded with both private and federal money and it would create 5,000 to 6,000 direct, permanent jobs, along with thousands more indirectly.”

https://www.news5cleveland.com/news/...-and-lordstown

“He’s hoping to get a definitive answer soon and break ground in Lorain and Lordstown by October”.

Another multi-billion dollar project for OH would be huge news…this time in NE OH.

It would be nice to breath some life into Lorain, I have a lot of doubt about these plans though. But you never know.

I'm more enthusiastic about Lordstown in general.

Yes…Foxconn EV, Ultium Cells, and (most recently) LI-Cycle all announcing big news in Lordstown.

It’s being dubbed Voltage Valley.

The submarine / naval factory, if it comes to fruition, would be more in line with the old school, union type shop.

So lots of promising spaghetti being thrown against the wall in Lordstown. I hope some of it sticks. Good people in the Mahoning Valley. They deserve some economic infusion/jobs.

Interesting that there is such a labor/skills shortfall on the 3 salt water coasts…making the OH maritime proposition compelling.

Note the Oceangoing Transit Carrier (to shuttle subs between the Atlantic and Lake Erie) is spec’d to allow passage through the locks. They claim a 7- day transit to/from Lorain and Groton, CT.

Nice read. I hope the projects come to fruition.

More electric vehicle jobs for the area: https://www.cleveland.com/business/2...-in-plant.html

Between Lorain and Lordstown, quite the boom in traditional manufacturing jobs along with big investments in advanced manufacturing tech.

Starting to hear some rumors about the new Apple Car scouting out manufacturing options. Since Foxconn is a huge supplier to Apple, and Foxconn just bought the behemoth Lordstown plant. Hmmmmm

Foxconn (and by extension, Lordstown) would seem to be in the running.

Sources I’ve seen speculate the possibilities as Hyundai-Kia, LG/Magna, Volkswagen, or Foxconn.

https://www.slashgear.com/933887/who...le-candidates/

Apple reportedly wants U.S. made batteries (if not complete U.S. assembly) and that would work in Lordstown’s favor. Apple has trusted Foxconn for many years as a capable contract manufacturer for many of their products, so the relationship is already strong.

Let’s hope…
