In Cleveland Heights, Ukranian, Russian, Hebrew, Arabic, and English are spoken. Parma is western suburb that is very diverse.

Background => I am single 30-year-old woman. I am pretty much a city girl, so I would be comfortable living in Cleveland or another highly-populated area and commuting to Mentor. (I travel for a living, so I won't have to commute to the office much anyway.) I want to purchase in a community that is ethnically diverse. I want my family to visit and see successful people who look like them. Although, it is not important that the community be mostly or significantly African-American (I'm black), I would hope that it be diverse. If there is a safe artsy neighborhood where many languages are spoken on the streets, all-the-better. Does this exist near Cleveland?

I know nothing of Cleveland. Can you help me?

Cleveland Heights seems to be the way to go. I lived there for a year and it was great! There is so much diversity over there, what with CWRU, the Clinic, all of the cultural institutions (Cleveland Museum of Art, Botanical Gardens, Cleveland Institute of Art, Severance Hall, etc.). Not to mention there is Little Italy, which is always hopping! You are also close to Coventry, which has tons of little shops and restaurants.

Shaker Heights is another good option, particularly around Shaker Square.

Good Luck!

Twinsburg has a growing middle class Black population according to the Plain Dealer, but I can't remember how far of a drive that is to Mentor - haven't lived in NE Ohio for the past 15 years. The News-Herald did a story a few months ago about the first African-American family living in a part of Mentor near Lake Shore Blvd. - it did not sound like they were having a positive experience living there.

My fiancee and I just moved to the West 144th & Triskett area of West Park and we love it. It's quiet and peaceful except for the random airplanes but you get used to them.

If you're looking for a dynamic, diverse community try Cleveland Heights, Shaker Heights, also Mayfield Heights, South Euclid and, from what I've heard, Twinsburg. Richmond Heights is another possibility. Good luck!
