I am looking for a small town there in either SW or SE Ohio with access to work. I've been looking at Orrville which has access to employment. However, I am really scared and feeling so insecure about making a move. Gas will be going up again since oil neared $11 barrel today. We want to drive down to Ohio and NY but with the price of gas...egads, rethinking this. At this point, we just don't know what to do. I have noted electrician positions advertised in Canton and Massillon for my husband. I do office work. Sometimes I wonder do we hold out and see what next year brings. Help, anyone, suggestions pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeee LOL.

I moved out 4 months ago and came to colorado. I just couldn't take the run down economy, no jobs and nuclear aftermath look of the east side. It's like they refuse to take care of it at all.
If I ever came back to Ohio (which is a very slim IF) I'd move to Columbus for sure. At least there's jobs there.

Wow, I know, places like Pepper Pike, Chagrin Falls, and Hudson. Talk about ugly. Who would want to look at waterfalls & walk through the Metroparks? No one would ever want to send their children to those excellent schools, either. Silly them, huh?
Columbus? Have you ever been there?
This was a funny post Thanks!

I'm looking to come back to the north from florida within the next couple months. I know cleveland has its problems but I still like the city. I mean the actual city of cleveland, not the suburbs. I work in healthcare so employment isnt an issue. I enjoy downtown living and a few neighborhoods throughout the city. Its a shame many cities in this country have been neglected for suburban sprawl and strip mall culture. I am in no way cracking on people who dont enjoy living in the city, please don't think that. I would love to see cleveland and its neighbors come back and thrive.

Yes 121804 , i've lived all over Cleveland, and Columbus. Hell I even lived in Ashtabula at one point. THe problem with the places you mentioned is that normal folk such as myself can't afford to live there.
I've seen every part of greater Cleveland, as i've spent the last 20 years of my life living there until recently. I just got really sick and tired of the low paying jobs (in my field) and the horrible weather. You're either dying in 90+ heat or shoveling out from 3 feet of snow.
The only thing I miss is the Lake. Nothing comes close to the Bass fishing on Lake Erie. Now I have a boat, and not many places to use it. But out here in Colorado, there's jobs o' plenty, nice scenery, mild weather, and nicer people.
Nothing against Ohio persay, just isn't my cup of tea anymore. Neither is any of the midwest for that matter.

And have you seen places like Gates Mills, Shaker Heights, Westlake, Strongsville, Medina, Avon Lake, etc.? Did Truman order the bomb on those areas, too?

Maybe hold out if you're uncertain. But Orrville is nice andthere are a lot of nice little towns in and around Stark County. Try and line up employment before you get out here, though, and that should help you ease your concerns.

Yes we would definitely try to obtain employment first. We are leaving tomorrow morning to drive down. It's about a 5 day drive...ugh..makes me sick giving all that $$ to the oil companies. Even though I'm from Cleveland, I've never been to some of the smaller towns so we want to check them out, plus I'll get to see my family. I think a wonderful idea would be for me to buy a lotto ticket and win lol.

My Long time Cleveland neighbors. How is the cost of heating your homes been? This is another consideration. People have a misconception that it is so expensive in the southwest to live and cheaper there. EVERYTHING except for the housing is more expensive there. Fuel, food, wear and tear on the car etc.
What is so great about Cleveland is all the green trees, loyal stable people, those wonderful thunderstorms, seasons and good good memories for me.
I am still deciding what to do. But, I will always love my home town no matter what I choose.
So what is the cost of heating those homes?

I'm in Youngstown, not Cleveland. But my highest gas bill over the last couple years was about $205. (not this year) My house is 93 years old, but is only about 1000 s.f. and has newer vinyl windows. I also think it helps that the houses are clustered so close together. (there's only about 10 feet between my house and neighboring houses.
