I just moved back after a 25 yrs, I enjoy the weather here it isnt 100 + humidity and I plan to head for fl for jan. and feb.
the old friends I knew are the same as when I left, good friendly people. the real estate has tanked and I got a super deal which makes retirement better. if I had to find a good paying job here I cant say I would have retuned

Thanks, I am still debating. One day I am staying, one day going. I will not have the luxury of going to Florida in the winter.
But, it is the people there that make it so great. Stable down to earth people!
Gone for 25 years. What prompted you to move back? How long have you been back?

i DECIDED TO MOVE BACK BECAUSE OF LONG TIME FRIENDS, AND the CHEAP the cost of living ie: realestate is lower, the heat where i lived in summer was unbarable,I would work night shifts with 40 years service to avoid the heat and traffic.
winters arent to bad up in akron but every so many years a bad one comes along so I have a trailer in fl and if I get to cold I am just a flight away from warm weather.
think your actions out before acting on Impulse, I drew out a plan and I hope it works, I have been back In akron since june 1st.

Go to Cleveland now, while it's still cheap. Even though you can't be a snowbird right now, you will probably be in a position someday to go south for a vacation each winter. So just go for it, prepare to deal with the weather from Jan-Mar (that's when I think winter weather is most painful, after New Year's it gets old), and enjoy it the rest of the year.
People and relationships are more important than what the weather is like outside.

I moved back after being gone for 22 years. Don't beleive them when they say it hasn't changed. It has and so do people. If you move back you must find the beauty in Ohio. It has more of that then anything. Beauty is found in the people, old friends and new, in the places (Little Italy, Medina) no matter where your at you have to find the beauty. The grass is not greener on the other side. This coming from someone that can hardly wait to get back to the mountains. For now my family has a need for me to be here. One day though I'll settle where the temps are cooler and the mountains call my name.

Thank You I am still debating. I am worried about the economy there. The only reason I am considering moving back is to be near family. I know it has changed. I was back last summer for 4 months. I was saddened by the change.
Also, I had some friends back there tell me I did not give it enough time while I was there. Maybe that will be that way for you? Hope so!

If I ever came back to Ohio (which is a very slim IF) I'd move to Columbus for sure. At least there's jobs there.

I moved down to the Charlotte, NC area, actually just across the boarder in SC, and I too will never move back to the Cleveland area again. I got sick and tired of dealing w/ lake effect snow (haven't seen any here in my 3 yrs being here), having highways constantly full of potholes (they are in good shape here, but need to be widened to accomadate the influx of 75,000 people per year), not much in the way of job opportunities (was laid off from my job, spent 4 months looking for work, found none, got hired immediately down here), and the stuck up type neighbors I had in Pepper Pike and Beachwood. No, those areas weren't run down, they looked nice, but the people there aren't nice at all. No, I can't imagine moving back up there ever, or anywhere in Ohio ever again. Their are so many better more economically thriving places to live. Even my parents are now about to move out, to go down to Charleston, Sc, though they are retiring. Even my friends who are still in Cleveland or Columbus are actively looking to get out.

There are also a lot of different suburbs that offer different things. What are you looking for?

Well as far as Cleveland Suburbs being in bad shape. You must be in area's im not familiar with. I'm very critical of the BS and I tell it like it is. West Side, East there are Superb areas. Orange, Beachwood, Chagrin Falls, Pepper Pike, Mayfield and Mayfield Heights, Mentor. Westside there is Brecksville, North Roylton, Seven Hills, Rocky River, Westlake, Bay Village, North Olmsted, Olmsted Falls, Strongsville. All excellent neighborhoods, just excellent. Not just ok.

It did not appear that way to me. I grew up in Clevleand and lived there half of my life. I thought it was beautiful. When I went back last summer the suburbs where run down. I would be in a grocery store in Seven Hills, the next week it was closed down. The roads are bad and half the stores are closed on the west side. And the attitude there is horrible, almost everyone I talked to wanted out. Believe me, I was really saddened by this. I want to go home and I have been a loyal Clevelander all my life.
