I don't know. Not sure. Cleveland and the suburbs are so run down. Seems everyone is moving out!
When I was back last summer, really loved those thunderstorms.
I have to make the right decision. I don't ever want to move again.
Alaska would certainly be an adventure!
Wow, I had to comment b/c I live in FL. I find the same thing...very transient. I don't feel the sense of community here, and I miss that. I also wanted to say that I was there very recently and didn't really notice too many changes. I was on the East side, and noticed a lot has been built since I left in the early 90's.

We just had a child, and I'm begging my husband to consider moving up there. I am not excited about raising my child/ren in such a transient community where there is no season change (I think it's good for the soul), and sub-par school systems.

While I will hate (as an adult) to give up the year round sun and nice weather, I am looking at Cleveland for a better life for my children. I can always move back to FL when I'm older.

Whatever you choose, best of luck to you.

You may want to consider becoming 'half-backers' and moving mid-way back to Cleveland in the Carolinas. We get 4 seasons (well at least 3 - 'winter type temperatures' may amount to maybe a month or so), much more sun than Ohio, and the big caveat w/out all of the snow! While many of the schools are not to the standard of some of the better ones in Ohio, if you do your research you can find some very solid school districts in most areas of the region. And some areas do tend to have more of a sense of community that is comparable to what you remember from Ohio.

Just a suggestion, think Cleveland's a solid city w/a lot to offer that has just taken a beating from job losses in manufacturing and other sectors. If you can deal w/the weather from November - March, then it's not a bad place to live.

My husband likes that idea, but I am not sure that moving to move is the best for us. I still have all my family (sans my mother, as she lives near us. BUT, would move back if we did) up in Ohio, so we have a nice stable network of friends and family. I have found, moving a lot in my 20's to mid 30's that it's getting harder to meet very strong friends. However, I know that being a mom will open some of those doors through school, activities etc going forward.

The other issue is cost. We have to live near a body of water, and the towns in SC and NC that are on the ocean are much less community oriented, and more transient with tourists. I love Charleston, but to live in what we want to live in would cost us more money in SC than it even does here in FL at this point. (mainly b/c the housing market in FL slumped, and we were able to buy at a great price).

Maybe it's the at I grew up in Cleveland, so for me, there is a nostalgia that no other area can replicate. Thanks for the info and suggestion.

Lew Lew, If you can and your heart is calling you, move back! Their is so much in Cleveland. And NOTHING is more important than friends and family. If I could, I would be back tomorrow. I think growing up in Cleveland was GREAT! I have so many wonderful memories and friends that I have known since I was 3. I am in SoCal and ask natives here about growing up and friends. Most do not have those kind of ties. Good luck!

Okay, I hear this on here. But, when I talk to my family and friends they are all doing fine?
So is this just Cleveland or subs too? I know when the city is down, it efffects the entire area.
I agree, Cleveland has gone down financially. It certainly is poor, right now.
But, when I was there. There was money in the subs. Not everyone was dying on the vine, there.
And Cleveland HAS to come back. Everywhere is bad now. Yes, some more than others. But, everything cycles.
There is a lot of good about the area. Some smart shmucks are going to come into the area and seize and opportunity!
So maybe Cleveland is at the bottom. Nowhere else to go but up!

22 year old nephew just graduated from College in June.
Got a job 2 weeks ago..... making more then his Uncle.

All my friends have great paying jobs except for one that was just laid off.
*knock on wood*

I, the forever optimist, believe that Cleveland is just now, as of this month, starting the very early beginning of a recovery.
Home sales increased in June but then slighlty decreased again in July. June was the first increase of 09.
Unemployment figures released TODAY show for the first time in a long time that the job loss trend is reversing.
Unemployment is down in almost all counties in Northeast Ohio - cleveland.com

There's even a tiny bit of good news about the schools.

Released today:

The latest state report card data, just released this morning, has mostly good news about the progress of districts and schools across Ohio, according to Deborah Delisle, the state's superintendent of public instruction.
