We have lived in Las Vegas for the past 14 years and might relocate to Akron. I have two boys that are involved in competitive soccer and Awana. What areas are close enough for my husband to have less than a 25 minute commute, but will offer great schools (1st and 4th grade), intense soccer, and a highly involved church (non-denominational Christian) nearby? I might also consider a great Christian school for the kids if it isn't too expensive or if I could teach there to cut costs (currently a high school math teacher).

Look to the communities of Bath, maybe even Magadore and Medina. Richfield is excellent on the higher end. Stow and Cuyahoga Falls are nice as well.
Revere school district is great. |

If you want to live by a great non-denominational church--live in Solon or Hudson. In solon, a church called "Parkside" has Alistair Begg, which is on the radio (103.3) and speaks all over the country. I dont know if its FM ao AM for that radio program, i think FM, but its the same station that the Moody Bible institute speaks on also. The church is on Pettibone rd and rt.43 (aka Aurora rd.) You would love it, and Solon is a great area to live, with one of the best sports programs in northeast Ohio.
Hudson Community Chapel (i believe the name is) is on 303. Hudson would be my second place to suggest to live. But Solon has a leg up on school system and church, but not as upscale as hudson (but Solon is upscale compared to many in the surrounding areas) |

If your moving to Akron, another option is Stark County. North Canton is a solid community with an excellent school district.
Also, Wadsworth in Medina County is great. Commute is only 15-20 minutes to Akron. The community has a town square, many new developments & older homes, and friendly people. There are also many churches- one very popular non denominational church is "Northside Christian". Wadsworth schools are rated "excellent" by State of Ohio. I think Wadsworth is the epitomy of a "hometown" & everyone seems happy to live in this community. |

Pretty much what the other posters have said. CVCA -- Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy in Stow is the private, non-denominational Christian school that comes to mind if you are considering one for your kids.
As far as public schools go, Stow, Hudson, Twinsburg, Solon, Nordonia (Northfield/Macedonia) to the North of Akron all have noteworthy sports and academic programs. Cuyahoga Falls is also good for sports and a little bit closer to town. South of Akron there is Green and North Canton in Stark County. To the West, there is Copley-Fairlawn, Revere (Bath), Wadsworth, Highland and Medina. For a big community church, you might want to take a look at The Chapel, which has a main campus at the University of Akron just off Rt. 8, and a recently opened branch now in Green just off I-77/Massillon Rd. If you are looking to continue teaching math, you should have little problem finding a job anywhere. ![]() |

i live in bath and it has everything you're looking for. check out revere public schools, they're great. there are several youth soccer leagues around here.
math and science teachers are very much in demand around here. check out the ODE (ohio dept of education) website for job openings -- there are tons. around here diversity is a euphemism for black and white kids in the same classroom. there are very few ESL students in the area. |
