Default How To Drive In Lake and Cuyahoga Counties

1. When the light turns green, sit there for 5 to 10 seconds.
2. When the light turns red, run the intersection.
3. When turning onto a street, turn your signal on 0.005 seconds before the actual turn. Doing this when turning left IS A MUST!
4. If the speed limit reads 35, drive 25.
5. When in the left lane, drive the same speed as the person on the right or even slower.
6. Say nothing or write nothing to local officials about the traffic lights constantly turning red the second you roll up to it while no one else is on the road...or about the pavement looking like it's been carpet bombed by the military.
7. When getting out of your car while parked in the right lane, do not look for oncoming traffic behind you in the adjacent lane.
8. Drive a land yacht that gets 2 MPG and then whine about the price of gas.
9. Drive around morons standing in the street as if the road is a sidewalk.
10. If you do happen to hit someone standing in the street, expect the person's mom to be on Fox 8 crying about how the nitwit was "getting ready to go to college" and Frank Jackson to take a break from golfing in Medina to talk about how it's all your fault.

Some people will never be happy.

In all fairness, driving in the Cleveland area is much more relaxed and less aggressive than many other cities, traffic is almost non-existent and alternatives to the car exist (although not so much for the exurb folks, sorry).

I agree but traffic non-existent? Have you driven on 480 during morning or evening rush hours..it's a nightmare..busiest highway in ohio I'd say.

Cleveland drivers as a whole pretty much approach perfection.

You want bad driving? Go to Cincinnati, where the natives will cheerfully risk causing an accident to allow someone to turn left from the right lane, or vice versa. Or try Philadelphia, where running red lights and/or jumping green lights ("the Philadelphia left" is where you turn left in front of oncoming traffic before the light turns green -- and then act annoyed when one of the oncoming drivers honks at you) is a competitive sport. Or Florida, where half the drivers can't see over the dashboard.

No, I can think of little to complain about when it comes to Cleveland drivers.

It actually just shows how unrealistic some expectations are.

Absolutely perfect? Obviously not.

Extremely god on a relative scale? Definitely.

I said approach ... LOL.

You guys need to get out more. Make you appreciate what you have -- or lack, in the way of sheer numbers of bad drivers.

Hmmm..........I wonder if living in Europe for a few years, 2 decades of road tripping across US, Canada & Mexico and currently living 2000 miles away from Cleveland qualifies for getting out much?

Maybe you need to listen to your own advice. If you did get out much you would notice that "approaching perfection" doesn't even belong in the same sentence as "drivers" anywhere.

Cleveland drivers are pretty average. Not the worst and not the best.
If you were to look up the statistics for 2007 crashes in Cuyahoga as compared to Hamilton county (Cinci) they would range 32k-34k with Cinci on the lower end. Pretty much similar and neither one "approaching
perfection".
