Default Moving to Amherst

Is Amherst a good place to live? We need an area with good schools, would prefer public schools but private okay.

I looked at the sales and it looks like a lot of homes for sale but not many are selling. Is this area going through a recession too? Wasn't sure how this effects the schools/property values.

I grew up in Amherst and my parents and one of my sisters still live there. It is a very nice town and a great place to raise a family. The schools are exceptional... the public schools are better than most private schools in the South (I see you are from Houston).

Depending on what your profession is, you can't really say in Amherst has been hit by the recession. Adjacent to Amherst is Lorain, Vermilion, & Elyria. Lorain & Vermilion have been severely affected by the closing of the Ford plant. Elyria is also very blue-collar, but I am not too familiar with it's situation. Many people move to Amherst and commute to Cleveland because you get much more house for your $$ and the property taxes are significantly cheaper than the Cleve. subarbs.

To sum it up, I would recommend Amherst for schools, amenities, location, etc. There's really no reason for me not to recommend it other than the commute (approx. 35) to Cleveland - if that is where you work.

Good luck with your search and move!
