The major problem in Lorain is that the people tend to be suspicious and narrow minded, never get out to see how other people live, and are scared to death of change.
On the flip side, they are fun loving and generous and would be there in a heartbeat to help someone in need.
Kind of a funny place, my home town. It's got it's flaws, but it has its good points, too.
I can definitely agree with some of that about not getting to see how other people live. I grew up mostly in Lorain in the 80s-90s (other than south Elyria, and Cleveland for a short time), in a rough neighborhood off of Oakdale in Central Lorain. I remember thinking that the whole world was like that because I had been in bad neighborhoods my whole life.

The first time I remember going to the suburbs I was absolutely shocked and in awe. The first thing I noticed was of course how nice the houses were, but the biggest surprise is how many white people there were, and pretty much no blacks/hispanics. After that I remember we drove through the suburbs when we could just to look at the houses and how much they costed and how nice the cars were and wish we could afford them someday. That might sound weird to somebody whos from the suburbs, but its like that for a lot of kids who live in the hood. Good times, but its kind of sad when you think about it. Ive lost a lot of friends/family to voilence and drugs in this area because they just couldnt escape that lifestyle they were so used to.

You do know that Cleveland has led the nation in Poverty. Led the nation in foreclosures (abandoned buildings), led the state in homicides, let the state in poverty, leads the state in police killings, leads the state in homelessness... you DO know this right? Everything you listed Cleveland is on top Nationally AND in Ohio.

cincinnati has had higher poverty rates than cleveland. cincinnati has a 3rd world infant mortality rate. cincinnati has led the state in homicide rate several years recently, and is on pace to do just that this year. cincinnati had the first major american riot of the new millenium. cincinnati has an open investigation by the fbi into their police department. it's going on eight years old. over 53% of cincinnati cops are estimated to be corrupt. the criminal justice system in cincinnati is the most dysfunctional and starved for funds. cincinnati has the worst slum. cincinnati's concentrated poverty rate is higher than cleveland's. cincinnati was nationally BOYCOTTED for its unconstitutional practices within its city offices, police department, and county courts. 'nuff said.

foreclosures does not = the # of abandoned buildings in a city. this is a glaring error.

the poverty list has a margin of error exceeding 4%, admits such, and even goes on to say that the top echelon of repeat offenders (detroit, buffalo, cleveland, cincinnati, miami) may actually be closer than they appear, and the percentages may be negligible.

remember, cleveland went from 1 to 12 to 1 to 4. figure that one out.

cleveland is no worse than cincinnati. look a little deeper into the endemic problems before you make boisterous claims.

hillside, honestly I have no idea how you can believe the things that you say. I might be biased towards Cleveland but what I say is the truth and based on actual facts, your completely biased and delusional towards Cincinnati and lie/exaggerate about it every chance you can get.

I really didnt want to have to explain this to you again. The only excuse you ever have is that I try to exaggerate and make Cleveland look worse. Thats not the case at all, these are all facts, I have a problem with you when you lie about things. Ghetto/hood-wise, crime-wise, poverty-wise, corruption-wise, foreclosure-wise, Cleveland is worse than Cincinnati. Cleveland has been higher in poverty ever single year except 1 where they were about equal (its been #1 several times...). Cleveland has been worse in crime nearly every year (its been top 12, 3 times...), and it has been historically worse. Check anywhere, morganquitno, city-data, Cleveland has been worse most the time (and thats with nearly every year being off of most categories, especially homicides with city-data and the FBI, 2007 by 45 MURDERS). Cleveland has been murder capital of the country. Our highest number of recorded murders was near 340, Cincinnatis was 89...that should say it all right there. Cincinnati has NEVER lead the state in homicide rate, Youngstown and East Cleveland are always worse at the very least. Cincinnati only lead the big cities 1 year so far, which happened to be 2006, Cincinnatis worst year ever. Last year Cleveland doubled Cincinnati in homicides, so get that garbage out of here.

Talking about corruption, Cleveland is the worst of the worst. Cleveland is under investigation for corruption all the time, all the departments. Unemployment in Cleveland is consistently worse. So tell me, how and in what way is Cincinnati as bad as Cleveland again? based on what I just said, its not. Cincinnati is nowhere near perfect, it can get rough, but Cleveland is much worse and has been consistently worse in nearly every category, nearly every year. Your really the only person who thinks Cincinnati is worse, definitely the only person Ive ever met who said that. Im hoping this just ended it. You keep changing the subject, this thread had nothing to do with Hamilton or Cincinnati to begin with.

No...

Replying to hillsides (and many others) ridiculous, false, and delusional posts is just one of the minor annoyances/inconveniences in my day. Nothing more.

imo. to me the entire east-side of cleveland (10 sq miles ?) is terrible with the exception of university circle and little italy. high crime, high poverty, high forclosures, etc, etc. cleveland usually and historically leads the state in all these catagories.. i will find some links to support because im sure someone will disagree.
