I live in Mayfield Heights and it is a nice town.. I agree with the above poster saying lyndhurst, highland hts, mayfield vlg, mayfield hts However for under 200k, you would be limited to lyndhurst (well under 200, closer to 140k) and mayfield hts.. Mayfield Hts, is more diverse in terms of pricing, you can find homes around 110k (iroquois ave, etc) however there are tons of rentals on the street.. for around 180, you can be on bonnie lane or jackie lane (used to be very expensive until Costco moved in and you may have their lighting in your backyard).. the one big plus is the School system, very highly ranked.. Mayfield School System is great.. Lyndhurst = Brush HS, used to be terrible but getting much better.. You may even want to take a look in Chesterland.

hope this helped.

What about Kirtland, Ohio? Its right along I-90, and it is not too far from Cleveland. Close to the lake, some nice beaches in the area.

Chardon is also close nearby, even better in my opinion. This little town is not far from I-90, and not a far drive from Cleveland either.

City of Chardon, Ohio

Chardon Local Schools

Geauga County is a great area to live in.

Default Avoid Cleveland If You Value Your Life

Avoid Cleveland. It is now ranked the 6th worst city in America for crime. The cops here are totally incompetent. You can't even walk up to the corner store without being harassed, or even worse, shot. I am not a racist, just speaking the truth...my neighborhood (56th Clark Ave.) was a pretty peaceful, mostly white southern community not more than 10 years ago. Then, mainly due to busing, it became predominately black literally overnight and the crime rate in the area skyrocketed. One night my landlord who lives downstairs, and has lived here 25+ years, was fed up with the noise and crack dealing in front of our house, and stepped out on her porch and rebuked them, telling them to take their business elsewhere. Soon after going back inside, three black women entered her house, grabbed her by her hair and dragged her outside and beat her nearly to death. The police took one and a half hours to respond to the crime. Another story...my best friend left my house recently, walking home minding his own business, and was approached by several black gang-bangers which demanded his wallet. When he refused and kept walking, they shot him in the back. I could go on and on. The point is, these crimes happened to personal friends of mine and I have heard countless other testimonials from others as well. Blacks here in Cleveland are ignorant animals. Avoid Cleveland like the plague. The entire city has become the haven of ghetto welfare trash.

Yeah, I guess it is but that only goes for bad areas in the city of Cleveland a few other cities, the majority of the Cleveland area is nothing like that. The least he could have done is changed his wording so that it didnt sound so ignorant and racist. Still we have to be realistic about it. Most of the areas in the city of Cleveland are pretty dangerous, I mean the city was ranked 7th most dangerous out of all cities in the USA over 75,000...thats really bad. Also the poorest ranking 3 different years, and not far behind a couple more years is pretty bad too.

Still like I said, the majority of the Cleveland area is really nice.

We've got to stop this PC stuff. Sure it was a over generalized statement(there are some good blacks in the city, and also bad white trash too), but when the worst areas of the city( and other parts of the country) are made up of mostly or all blacks, it does reflect poorly on the black community here in the US, specifically the leadership who have let their community fall into decay, and yet play the blame game on whites, and black who have rebuked their views. Once can say that what ever MLK fought for in relation to rights and advancement for blacks, has been perverted and thrown away since his death.
It should not be considered racist to say that the worst areas of town are the black areas, and that those "gang bangers" and "thugs" (who are black) have done some of the most barbaric acts in the history of the city(ie beating up anyone for no reason, killing grandmothers, etc).

There are still many decent areas of Cleveland proper, including University Circle, Tremont, Ohio City, Shaker Square, Little Italy, etc. The suburbs, which constitute 80% or more of "Greater Cleveland." are almost all nice and livable.
