Default Does anyone find the "Vacation in the D" commercials annoying?

I live in Akron and I have to think Detroits advertising campaign is mainly targeted to us in Northeast Ohio. I'm sure most on here remember the commercials, in case you don't:

*Guy is sitting around bored with his girlfriend and they have nothing to do but rent movies or something lame. One of them daydreams & imagines crazy parties at bars/clubs with tons of friends having the time of their lives. And the premise is: "Visit the D."*

I'm sorry but Detroit is the last place I would waste a vacation on. It is like a dumpier Cleveland. I find it rediculous that they have been trying to advertise it as a vacation spot. Sure NE Ohio doesn't have much to offer either but there are much better alternatives than visiting our rundown crimeridden neighbors to the NW.

Ive seen those commercials a lot and they are kind of annoying. To me theyre more funny than annoying though. The first couple times I saw it I laughed. I dont think many people would even think of saying "vacation" and "detroit" in the same sentence. Its the last place I would think of also.

Ive been to Detroit a few times, done a few things there. Honestly, I think the Cleveland/Akron area is much better than Detroit, and Im not trying to bash or be biased. The only thing there is to do in Detroit that you cant do around Cleveland is go to a casino. Detroits worse than Cleveland in almost every category. I have nothing against Detroit, but no, Im not going to take a vacation there anytime soon.

As much as you might not want to admit it, I would rather visit the Detroit area over the Cleveland area:

the international border
Greenfield Village/ Henry Ford Museum
Nightlife around Royal Oak

Ive been to all 3 of those. Im not trying to bash, but I was not impressed. At least when it comes to comparing what Cleveland has to that. Cleveland area:

Downtown/The Flats
NFL Hall of Fame
Rock n Roll Hall of Fame
University Circle/Museums
Cedar Point (although a good distance away, its the #1 amusement park in the country)
I could go on.

The only thing I know of that Detroit has over Cleveland is it has legal gambling and casinos, and the population is larger so whatever comes with that. I live next to Cleveland so obviously Im not goint to take a vacation here. But if I lived in another place I would probably chose Cleveland over Detroit, if I had to pick between the two. Those are sad choices though. I would much rather go to Miami or LA or Hawaii or someplace, thats a vacation.
