Old Brooklyn/South Brooklyn, I think has gone downhill a little bit, but its still considered nice for the city of Cleveland.
Other areas I would like to live are anywhere on the lake away from the core. Even in North Collinwood on the Eastside there are some nice areas on the lake. The westside close to Lakewood has some very nice houses also off Edgewater. Ohio City is so close to downtown/rapid stations, and has great diversity. Theres a few nice areas Ive seen on the SW side also.
I would say a big downside to some of these neighorhoods though is that they are being kept down because theyre in the city of Cleveland. They get all the services that the worst areas in the city get also. Bad schools, police, roads, etc. Its a sad situation, but at least there a few good areas left.

Actually the public schools are a lot better in these areas. Tremont has a great public school from what I'm told, you have to realize the main problem is not the school itself but the kids/families that attend them. SO the nicer the neighborhood, have better kids, families that care and so the kids do much better and teachers can teach rather than babysit.

It depends what you want. I know what I like, but cannot answer for others. There is something for everyone unless you want rural or completely bland. Ohio City is my favorite, but not for everyone.
I have lived AND worked for a few years in Ohio City with no bad expereinces. No promises of utopia, but life can be good.
If you are going to get all tweaked out about everything scary that happens, you forget all the positive. Man (or women) up and get involved in this great community. Show up at a neighborhood meeting, volunteer, rinse , lather, repeat, and most important enjoy this fine hood.
there are several Cleveland neighborhoods I would live in over Cleveland's "best" suburbs.

If I were single I would choose Downtown, Tremont, Detroit-Shoreway, University Circle, or even Shaker Square. With a family I would certainly consider Old Brooklyn/South Hills or West Park.

Being a Case grad, I would have to move back into University Circle. UC still isn't as good as was promised back in the mid-90s, but being close to Little Italy makes up for a lot of flaws. Realistically, I'd feel compelled to send a child to a private school, though.
Personally, I wouldn't move into Ohio City. I have a very good friend from Case who bought and fixed up a house on Randall close to St. Ignatius.
Sadly, he sold that house after taking a job in DC, and it was in the news not too long ago as a murder location. The house had been foreclosed on, as have several others in that neighborhood.
I love the West Side Market and Great Lakes Brewing Company, but if I had to move back to Cleveland tomorrow, I wouldn't buy in Ohio City. That's just my take on the situation.

Downtown. Close to the Q, CBS, Tower City, RTA options, etc.

Well, I live in the Warehouse District, now. Ohio City would be my second choice.. I'm a big fan of what w25th has to offer.
