If you had to live in the city of Cleveland...
What neighborhood or area would you choose?
This should be a good thing for Cleveland and to see which neighborhoods are the best and recommended. I know a lot of people on here are against living in the city of Cleveland, and most want to move to the suburbs, but I want to see what area you would choose if you had to live in the city.
I live in Lorain, and was born on the near westside of Cleveland so Im not really a suburbanite. Personally, I would probably choose Ohio City. I like how the neighborhood has come back and how diverse it is. Its also very close to downtown and the Westside Market and many other things. Other than that, I like downtown, University Circle, and Little Italy. Theres a few other areas that I would like to live also.

West park
but.
Been there done that. Lived in Westpark 15 years.
Bad schools
Worthless cops
Inept administration
Bad Roads
Poor snow plowing
All are endemic to all Cle neighborhoods. Too bad really WP has some incredible streets. Normandy and Norway. Greenwood and Ernadale.

Warehouse District, Tremont, or the most underrated area of the city, between Lorain and Triskett in the 120s/130s. Maybe in the 50s/60s north of Detroit.
(I live on the Gold Coast now.)

I live in Detroit shoreways neighborhood. Lived there for almost five years now. My wife and I really like it. It's come a long way in five years. New restaurants, new retail, a new movie theater coming, and multi million dollar streetscape project. If I had to pick a neighborhood now I would say University Circle. This will be a sweet neigborhood in ten years.
By the way we were suburbanites before this and I feel that the city just has so much more flavor. Personal opinion. Many of my neighbors are young families, with good jobs, they save enough in taxes to send their kids to private schools around the area. Urban Community School on Lorain has a waiting list.

I'd probably live in the Edgewater neighborhood. It's just east of Lakewood (where I lived for 15 years and absolutely loved) and has a very similar feel.
If I had real money I'd love to live in one of those lakefront mansions on Edgewater Drive. But on a much more modest income one could rent a nice half of a duplex on Clifton or a really cool vintage apartment on Lake or thereabouts.
Edgewater Park is within walking distance, and downtown Cleveland is 5-8 minutes away. Also, and I could be wrong about this, but my perception is that crime is less of a problem than in some of the "hipper" neighborhoods closer to downtown (Ohio City, Tremont, etc.) but you're still within easy traveling distance of what those areas have to offer.

Last time I was in town I took a walk down some of those streets in the 130s north of Lorain. I was surprised at how pleasant and well-kept those residential areas were. I was easily able to imagine myself living in one of the houses there.

If (someday) I move to Cleveland, I'd live in Ohio City, Tremont, or Downtown because I was told they are the easiest areas to live in without a car.

My thoughts exactly. Add in:
-close to the Triskett and 117th rapid stations
-close to the freeway without additional crime issues
-better-than-average access to parks (Mohican, Jefferson)
-surprisingly good restaurants for the median income of the neighborhood (Cleveland Grill, Phnom Penh, Luchita's, Mi Pueblo)
-better access to groceries than most (Giant Eagle, Almanar)
and you have an attractive neighborhood, in my opinion. I just hope the poor economy doesn't push the crime west of about 110th or so, which is kind of the line right now, in my book.

I remember falling madly in love with Old Brooklyn, but that was 20 years ago. What's it like now?
