As for the question, "can Cleveland be saved?" I guess you have to ask, are the present policies working. Well, the honest answer to that appears to be, no. Fine. Is there much chance of those policies changing, before they do a whole lot more damage to The Country? I don't think so. Where is Obama headed? He's racing as fast as he can towards the solutions that don't work. He's The President. So, it appers, that is where America is headed too

That New Century Foundation is dubious at best. While I dont agree with everything that Chef Boyardee says, he is right as far as the part about certain races committing crimes at much higher rates than other races, sadly. For example, if Detroit was in the same position, but it was 80% white, you can bet that the crime rate would be a lot lower. There is a lot of things to factor though. Its also been proven that when an African-American population enters an area, the crime increases. When whites are in the presence of a Black population, they also commit crimes at higher rates due to influence, but still not nearly at the rate of blacks.

This is pretty basic stuff.

The poverty rate for Blacks is generally from 1.5 times-3 times that of whites, but the rate of blacks committing crimes is generally anywhere from 4 times-12 times that of whites. If it was all about socioeconomic, than it wouldnt be that big of a difference between the numbers. Blacks specifically, commit crimes at higher rates than whites in every income level.

Of course theres several other things to factor and more advanced formulas to use, but it all comes out with the same answer, just to slightly different degrees. Socioeconomic plays a big part also, but it seems that certain races just commit crimes at higher rates than other races. Its hard to admit that or for anybody to accept that, because it proves that there is natural differences between races. When for years we have been trying to prove that were all equal and there is barely any difference. Just like when they found a large difference in the makeup of the brain between races, they were hesitant in releasing the date because of that same reason. Thats just how things are, sadly.

I can't more agree with your post. It seems that either people are really that ignorant and actually buy into the propaganda spewed out of these horrifically biased publications or ARE SO LAZY THAT THEY WOULD RATHER OPT OUT FOR SOME FANTASY SOLUTION THAT NOT ONLY IS WRONG BUT ALSO TIME CONSUMING AND THREATENING TO SOCIETY.

what about a few high-rise or mid-rise residential buildings to keep the momentum going on the new bus-rapid health line ? i think if we can connect the dots ( downtown and university circle) with continued growth/development and new business/residents we can then focus on the slums adjacent to euclid ave.(carnegie,cedar and chester aves.).

What policies do you see state and local officials engaging in that are making things so much worse for Cleveland as compared to the rest of the country?

I know I'm just talking to a wall here, but who knows, maybe it will actually sink in for someone else. Obama sets NATIONAL policies. If those policies affect Ohio based industries worse than other states, then isn't it incumbent upon the state and local governments to try and attract industries which are impacted positively (or less negatively) by national policies on trade or unions?

When the waves come, it doesn't do a whole lot of good to flail around and beg to be rescued... it makes more sense to get out your surfboard, hang ten, and ride it to your advantage.

Safety is created, not requested. A group of us (30 to 50 year olds) have taken matters into our own hands, because we are sick of thugs. We go thugging periodically. When a thug bothers one of us, we hammer them real good and teach them a lesson. They are slow learners, so it usually takes several times. It works too, our city is safer and the town people say it. These thugs are just bullies and all you have to do is nail a few of them and they cower. Take your streets back and go thuggin.

getting back on topic

how about the city/county buying some of the old factories/buildings, and giving them to artist for free? let them live in them and use them as workshops.

try and find what products can be manufactured competitively in the US, and try and get them to move a factory there.

Maybe add some casinos (and make them Flamboyant!)
