Education is the only thing that can save Cleveland, Ohio, Midwest, and America for that matter.

Also, Casinos are a joke and a temp fix. You need things that actually make progress. Why in the world would you want a downtown full of Casinos... Just move to Vegas.. Also what I believe would happen with Casinos, being that I used to live within an hour of one, you have dozens of families that will literally take their paycheck and flush it down the toilet at one. A string of events will follow those situations.

What would that solve crystalblue?

Giving an artist a free space to paint would not have a great return on investment....

Giving an education institute a free space would have a greater return on investment than what you mentioned...
How about just give an up and coming technology, new battery research center, green tech, etc, a place to work and do research.

I agree its not the 'fix' cleveland needs, BUT I do think that a casino will complement the Medical Mart nicely. Allowing us to draw more (larger) conventions into the city.

Now, it would take a gazillionare to come in and buy it up to fix it.
I know Cuyahoga County has had a declining population since The 1970s. What do you think Cleveland did wrong?

Remember, Cleveland is 51% Black (according to CityData) and Chicago is only 37% Black. Still, Atlanta Georgia is almost 62% Black and is at least growing. Of course, crime in Atlanta makes Cleveland look GOOD!

Still, the same situation appears to exist in Washington D.C. (about 60% Black, yet growing). Atlanta is second only to D.C. in Federal jobs. It is also, "The Undeclared Capital of The South." So, maybe Cleveland should lobby The Federal Government to just go on and move to Cleveland and bring all those tax bucks with it! Kidding aside, I don't think it would be fair to compare Cleveland to Atlanta or D.C. Columbus, maybe, but Cleveland, no.

Unfortunately many manufacturing jobs that were good pay for non-college grads are going away to low cost labor overseas and some to south US Gwinnett plucks another win from the Rust Belt - Atlanta Business Chronicle: . You have to put alot of blame on the leaders in county, city that have no foresight. Cleveland had it's heyday 50 years ago and it needs to reinvent itself. Developing the lakefront has always been topic on the slow path of fruition along with other encouraging ideas.

I think Cleveland should try and grow like Columbus has over the last decade. Annex a few suburbs.

Columbus, like most state capitols, has a ton of tax payer supported jobs. With the size of government, you shouldn't compare state capitols to other cities.

Cleveland just needs this recession to be over, just like many other cities out there. Cleveland has some awesome projects in the works. Give it time, Cleveland made progress in the 90s. "America's Comeback City" rings a bell. Two recessions in the 21st century does not help Cleveland, nor does it to any other city.

I think if Clevelanders were more aware/spoke out more, in regards to Cleveland's real problems, there might be some hope for the area. As it is, all we here from our "leaders" is p.c. nonsense. If that keeps up, it is hopeless, but if the people can do something, to raise awareness, change minds and build consensus, then there is hope for real, lasting and effective change.
