As you can see, as a city, Cleveland is the 11th most dangerous in the US, while Las Vegas is the 56th. This is out of over 385 cities in the US.
However, as a metro, Cleveland is the 100th most dangerous in the US, while Las Vegas is the 3rd most dangerous (ouch!). This is out of over 338 metros in the US.

Yeah, its one of the most accurate lists that Ive seen. Almost all of them are in the correct place.
There will always be some flaws, but they have a pretty good formula and factor in everything that needs to be.

So, to put this into perspective, Cleveland is blowing Oakland out of the water so far, and are just shy of their homicide rate last year which put them at #4 most dangerous.
As a note, Cleveland's population is slightly higher -- about 50-60,000 more people though it will be interesting to see the numbers from 2010 census.

Actually I think 4 people were killed in Oakland. 3 cops and the suspect were all killed. Another cop is injured, but recovering I think. Its gotten a lot of national news attention.
If that put Oakland at only 16, then yes, Cleveland is doing very bad this year. Actually, the new estimates put Oakland at only about 40,000 (440k vs 400k) people less than Cleveland. Most years these cities have about the same number of murders, but this year it seems Cleveland will have more murders and a higher murder rate. Pretty bad to say the least.

4th cop is brain dead and on life support. I suspect he'll be #17. Would the suspect's death be counted? I say that with general ignorance -- I'm not sure if he'd be counted or not.
